Hi guys!

Could I get a few of you to let me know what's the highest mileage you get from reserve (when the light kicks in and display starts to read mileage up from Zero) on the 800 GS ridden normally (not 6th gear 30mph to save fuel).

Al start.... 37 miles

Any advances???

Mine's the old style readout, but from a full tank I did 279 miles before having to push it

Took 17.2 L to fill it :D

Geez Micky! Is that on a 800?? If so what mpg were u achieving? I'm starting to brick it at around the 220 miles mark...

Mine usually comes up with 27-31 miles. I usually ride between 70-90mph on my windy commute. I think it depends on your average mpg, but don't rely on the accuracy of your remaining range.

When I've ridden economical and the remaining range hits zero I've kept going well beyond the reserve before it started spluttering. Other times when I've ragged it the bike spluttered even with 20 odd miles apparently still to go, according to the remaining range.

You can get some great mpg out of the F8 if you ride economically. I love getting in the slipstream of a lorry and watching the mpg rocket up over 100mpg...

Ha .... indeed. It was mixed riding, taking it easy and razzing. I think that worked out at nearly 74mpg but 60 to 65 is easy and regularly obtained. I look to fill the tank somewhere nudging the 200 mile mark normally. Depends on the terrain, location, destination etc.

Riding with the 1150's and 1200's at the end of a days riding it will usually take 9 to 13 Euros less to fill up :D

Fuel

The f800s that I had did 70 plus mpg over the 5500mls that I had it. Probably was fairly gentle with it as it was my first bike on returning to biking after a 42yr gap. :)

Most I've done is 44 miles into reserve, took 16.2 litres to fill it.

Bit off topic but.... 42 years! :bow

In reply to OP - as aforementioned, the tank is definitely more than the 16 litres in spec - i've managed 248 miles of country riding but that was on a 658 and it cut out about 10 yards from the petrol pump :blast

There are a few threads on here re this.

There have been various software upgrades over the years, some are more accurate than others. Generally, the light comes on, and the computer switches to miles left, at around 30 miles. If you then slow down you'll get well over 30 miles, plus you can probably go about 10 miles when the trip reads ---.

They're not all the same though, some have run out with remaining miles showing on the trip. The best thing to do is find out on your bike. When it gets low, take some fuel with you, then see how far you can go. There have been plenty of times when I've been abroad with the satnav saying fuel is 15 miles away, but the bike thinks it can only do 10. It's funny how smooth your progress becomes when the trip shows ---.

I tested mine once, the tank was filled then run Dry and it run out at 218.8 miles.
The fuel light came on then 49 miles later it ran out.
When the computer showed 9 miles to empty it actually gave me 23 Miles.

on long rides using the garmin, I have set the garmin fuel gauge at 190 mile range to flag up as fail safe

The above was from a previouse post about running dry my F650GS twin so that was counted down to empty then I got 14 more miles. ( :D yes I was carrying spare fuel at the time as it was a deliberate test, and no the pump does not run on it cuts out silence just wind while you coast to the stop :thumb) I will do it on the F800 at some point, for me its about knowing your bikes fuel capabilities matched with the cock a hoop computer readings :pullface and that odd time knowing if you need to be bothered about making it to the refuelling or not :cool

Seeing fear in others eyes, from worry of running out of fuel is not a pleasant site, Ive seen it many times :eek  often spirit fingers set in also :nenau and Touretts :D

No mappage on the garmin (my fault ) Seville , it hot ,very hot .. I am trying to get through the city the old fashioned way but a series of road works and one way streets are preventing me from getting to where I think I want to be. Roundabout ahead , I enter and as I exit the bike gives a little splutter . I tick myself off for being too ham fisted on the gas . Long avenue ahead , river on the left , now how to I get over there and out of this city. Another splutter , sugar I don't think that was me .I look at the gauges , all looks good, no warning lights , temp gauge where it should be ,juice gauge showing 3 bars , Splutter , splutter sputter , now in heavy city traffic , its hot , the cabbies are not impressed with this spluttering gringo , WTF , I check the gauges again ,90 k left to run on fuel and 3 bar still showing , no fuel light on . I splutter on and eventually fuel up after a very interesting ride through rush hour Seville . It did not seem like a adventure at the time etc etc. I was always wary of the gauge on my bike but now I don't trust it at all

I get about 40mpg out of mine :(

But that is going at whatever speed you can imagine to reach that low number on the A3, and then slow start stop London traffic.

To answer the question, I rarely go above 200miles on the clock, don't think I've ever done more than 10miles once the estimate mileage left is zero.
