Hello,

I'm going to get my G/S PD tank resprayed (it's currently black and in need of a bit of TLC :( ). I'll be going back to the original white (I know the paint code is on here somewhere), together with the PD stickers.

BMW have the stickers in stock, so they're on order. However, all the pics I have of a PD are from 3/4 angles. It would be really great if I could give the sprayers an accurate idea of how the stickers are positioned on the tank.

If anyone out there in airhead land has a PD tank with the original stickers, please could you take some pics from left and right 'square on', if you know what I mean? It would be really appreciated! :thumb2

Not my bike but I found the picture from somewhere on the net and I believe the owner is from Finland.

I hope the picture is useful. I'm also preparing a tank for painting, its the 19 ltr. standard tank and I will paint it Alpine Weiss

Regards,
Dan

Hi,

I took this one of my neighbour's bike last year when he was looking for replacement transfers.

It probably doesn't add anything to the the picture you've already got - but just in case . . . .

Just as an aside the steel 32 ltr G/S PD tank is the prettiest airhead tank dontcha think..???

I was told when I picked mine up at Motobins a few years back on special order, because they don't see too many of them,
all the guys stopped work and opened up the box just so they could admire it..!! :D:D:D

(probably the price had something to do with it!)

Good luck with the transfers. :thumb2

Just a little tip I learnt after getting some transfers from BMW for my standard tank. I badly messed up one side trying to stick it on. The transfer has a sticky side covered by a protective paper back. the top side is also protected by a film. DONT try to stick it straight on a dry tank.
Wet the tank with soapy water then lay on the transfer (having removed the backing from the sticky side. Position it by sliding it then squeegy out the water with a credit card ( or similar) then peel off the top protective film and hey presto. Perfect. I know it doesnt seem right to put a glue onto soapy water but believe me, it works.
good luck. The tank on these bikes do look good.:rob

Thanks for advice on stickers! :thumb2
Voyager - off topic I know, hijacking my own thread, but please could you ask your neighbour what make/model of screen that is on that g/s? I could do with one for mine & that looks neat. Thanks!

Certainly . . I'll e-mail him now.

Thanks Bob :thumb2 Really appreciated.

At the moment, with my lanky dimensions, I'm kind of clinging on at motorway speeds!

Life is never simple.

Tom (neighbour) doesn't know what make of screen he has. It was on the bike when he bought it -must be eight years (and 2,000 miles :augie) ago now.

I have had a close look at it and there is a small logo on the screen and mounting brackets - it looks like "NC USA" but as its a bit styalised I can't be sure.

The bike is now at the back of his garage behind other vehicles so I didn't have much light, but here are the photos. Maybe someone will recognise the brand.

Another view of the screen:

Burned into the screen, bottom left (as you ride the bike):

Cast into the screen mounting brackets:

I'll try to get more pics in better light (and I'll use a compact camera with macro-focus instead of my monster Nikon D200 with 18-200mm DX VR lens).

:bow Thanks very much Bob! :thumb2

2,000 in 8 years!

To be honest, the pics you've taken give me enough to start looking, please don't ask Tom to move stuff around on my account. I'll have a bit of a google about with that info.

Givi makes all kinds of screens and my bike was fitted with one similar to the one in Voyager's picture. Here's a link to the Givi website:
http://www.givi.co.uk/caschi_borse_bauli_accessori.asp?cat=125&lang=en

Optically I would prefer one of the original PD screens but the Givi screens probably offer better wind protection.

Regards,

Dan

Cheers for the link Dan. My local bike bits shop (BikeStop) is a Givi retailer - I'll pop in there tomorrow and see what they've got.

:beerjug: all!

C'mon Judge :blast
You KNOW that PD's didn't have side panels:blast

Whats up with you anyway ?? you seem to be back on the dark side quite a bit just lately :augie:augie:augie

I for one am VERY VERY pleased that you are over here more often !!:beerjug::bounce1:bounce1
