I've just bought a new project - pick it up on Monday...

Damn right (I'll have to look at the seat carefully though) - the Vetter fairing and panniers (which I don't think I've seen in this country) were its selling point to me. Not to everyone's taste, but I think they look great.

It's a long term project - 2 owners from new and 41k miles, but stood for a long time. I've had a couple of CX500s in the past and have fond memories of them - this will probably cure me of that nostalgia... :D

They look like Vetter panniers. I had them on a GL1100. Good solid luggage. Best luck with the project.:thumb2

I had a colour coded Windjammer fairing on my old Bonnie T140ES Executive back in the early 80's

It cost more for the paintjob than it did for the fairing then I found out that they don't crash too well :blast

Funny that - I had a Pantera fairing (much the same as a Windjammer) colour matched to my CB900FA which IIRC cost me £750. Would have been 1981 or 1982. I wrote the fairing off 3 weeks later when I stuffed it under a car. Pair of Krauser panniers when down the road at the same time. I still have the bike though it's a non-runner at present.

I love CX 500s :) but that looks like a horror story:aidan

Can't wait to see what you do with it mate :thumb2

Change the seat back to standard and then run it until after the cockroaches become extinct

Yep, I think the seat may have to go (the standard seat is quite comfortable IIRC) - but I'll have to at least try it out first :D

Plans have changed and I can't get it until Thursday now - dammit!

On the positive side, I think I may have worked out how to shoehorn it into the garage... :D

I was out on one of my airheads last year and stopped for a fag. A few minutes later a chap and his wife stopped to see if I was ok. They were riding an immaculate cx500. When asked about it he said he'd bought it for £500 on eBay. I expressed amazement at the bargain. Just before they left and out of earshot of his mrs he leaned over and said "it wasn't really £500".

Clearly for the benefit of his mrs it was an eBay bargain :D
