A straight forward question!

If it's posted by FedEx or similar, yes. You'll get an invoice anything up to a month after you've had the goods. Don't what the duty on a lid will be, sorry.

As an aside I vaguely recall reading somewhere that either the shells or the liners for the Japanese market are a different shape to the European market. Not sure if that's true or just marketing hype to stop you buying on the cheap.

I've been looking at the XR-1000's, I bought my girlfriend one last week and it's the dogs, but earlier today I tried on the X-Spirit and I thinnk it could be the one.

Maybe I should just not risk it and have an XR...............

I regularly buy things off e-bay from overseas, what I do is ask the seller if he is prepared to fill in the customs form with either "gift" or "used autopart" etc. and to state the value at $50 (from America) or 40 euros (from Europe). This way you don't get charged VAT or import duty. Some of the sellers are prepared to do it, some aren't.
Good Luck

Surely there's no VAT payable on the helmet anyway, as it's safety equipment.

You would get stung for Import Duty and VAT on the cost of carriage.

Oh, and the Post Office or whoever will then add a charge to cover the costs of dealing with the Customs for you. That's usually a fixed-fee rip-off in the order of £18 or more.

Then add in the fact that helmets made for the Japanese home market will have a different internal shape to those intended for Europe because the japnese have a different head shape, and you have to ask if it's worth the risk IF YOU CAN'T RETURN IT.

It wont have an ECE R22 05 label or ACU gold stickers so its not really legal for road or race use.

It doesn't need a label stuck on the outside, just an appropriate label sewn on to the strap.

But you're right, although I suspect that a hat from a major manufacturer would pass for road use unless the copper had piles that were bleeding!

Sod it, I'll order the XR-1000 and stick to budget.

Thanks gents!

Not for road use , but the ACU Gold sticker is a requirement for the BMW Offroad Skills Course, most trackdays and any form of racing either on or off road.

I don't think so. On my course there were plenty of guys using BMW System 5 helmets and they don't have the ACU Gold sticker? :eek
