A stupid idea-advice please ?

I have 3 days off coming up-Friday Saturday and Sunday and I have an urge to bugger off somewhere distant for Friday night then ride back on Saturday.I need to be back by Sunday midday.

I was toying with leaving stupidly early on Friday,say 4 am and riding to tunnel (1.10 from home) then riding down to the alps,staying somewhere on the RDGA near ,say the Col du Galibier for the night then riding home again.

I did the RDGA in it's entirety in 2008 so know what it's like.Infact I'd like to repeat this photo but with my KTM :

I think it was taken near the above mentioned Col ?

So has anybody got any recommendations for a great place to stay with a view ? We stayed in Morzine and Valloire last time but both were in the valleys.Is there anywhere up higher ?
