I've been travelling on the stretch from Dishforth up to Teeside.

On both sides there always seem to be 'Traffic Accident Investigation' vans parked up.

What are they doing?

Do they have speed cameras?

One today near the A690 junction heading north had stopped behind a broken down car on the hard shoulder, had big arrow illuminated warning traffic.

First time i've noticed one :nenau

They`ve been there for weeks now. Started noticing them about October last year. I think they may have cameras mounted but not speed cameras. If they had, I would have been sent for a lie down a long time ago:eek:

Generally they're cutting the grass or collecting litter.

When I attended my speeding course to avoid points on the license we were told when parked on the hard shoulder the average time before a collision is 30 mins.

As these vans are parked up everyday the guys must be on some serious danger money :nenau

Having said that the hard shoulder looks immaculate :D

Vans A19

I travel the A19 a lot and the men in the vans are usually clearing up litter
they are there most mornings and evenings mainly and slow the traffic down so whoever thought of it, it works,
shame it doesn't scare the twats out of the outside lane from the parkway to the Hartlepool turnoff or are the monkey hangers dying to get home
then the Mackems takeover dddddd I will stay in the outside lane at all costs cos i am turning off in twenty miles.then its the geordies turn, keep left dear boys except when overtaking or is this not on the highway code anymore or do they still have one

If it is Accident investigation they're most probably 'surveying' the location..Or indeed taking photographs .. could be from a past accident....

Sometimes it cuts down the work if they have already surveyed a particular location for Collisions ... IIRC ;)

Policing on the cheap. Many see the vans parked up and think Camera etc, so slow down. Same with the Land Rovers with Traffic Officer on, everyone slows down until someone realises what it is then overtakes it. Gets up my nose.

The trucks are most effective at slowing down the A19 with excruciating overtakes (not forgetting the tractors).
