Gents I`ve just landed in Mojacar Andalucia for a couple of nights R&R ahead of riding up to Granada on the 7th, my original plan was to ride west then along the A348, joining the road above Almeira and then finishing off with a quick blast up the A44 into Granada, & hopefully get a little relief from the heat.
Mapsource shows the route being a 6hr+ ride. Has anyone any recent experience of riding this road? the highlights etc? is it worth riding, or would I be better off giving it a miss?

I drove from Gib to Murcia in June, and there was still snow on the high sierras around Granada, but on the roads in the valleys it was 27 ish, now it will be in the 30s, inland it gets very hot after midday. You could carry on the coast road to Nerja it's a lovely small town and visit the famous balcon de Europa, and about 3 miles inland from there is Frigiliana voted the prettiest white village in Andalucía, and there are the caves just out side Nerja. What ever you decide enjoy the trip. :thumb2

Thanks for the info guys.
I knew it was going to be warm, & was hoping for some slight relief from the heat by going inland but that doesn`t seem the case, but as the A348 route is expected to be slow, it would leave me riding into the afternoon heat. Riding the route would have been a bonus, but ultimately getting to Granada for a planned trip to the Alhambra is more important. Then riding west into Portugal towards Lisbon before next weekend to meet up with a few mate`s is my aim.

The Alhambra should have been the eighth wonder of the world, it's fantastic, they do two admissions one in the morning and one in the afternoon. :thumb2

Looks like your having a good trip Peirre, I wont be making it to Faro sadly, maybe nx year. Hope you enjoy.

Done that road, absolutely brilliant, but bloody hot. We stopped off the A348 at a village called Bubion, 3 villages are in a row, capileira, Bubion and pampineira.

There is a road up in the mountains to Trevelez. It's the centre of jamon production due to the dry mountain air. It's a tiny place but ham curers everywhere.

The Sierra Nevada is one of the best places I have ever been on a bike. It's just stunning and would go back in a heartbeat.

Granada is ace too. The Alhambra is incredible.
