Yes, the rack on a 2007 F650GS single is the same as the 2011 G650GS, our plastic BMW topbox clamps straight on.....!

Hi Mr Palmer do you know whether this is true of all parts for a G650GS (ie parts for a 2007F650GS single can be used for the 2011 G650GS - mines still on order but I want to buy the Hepco and Becker engine protector (Crash)
bars but Motobins only have the 2010 catalogue which does not include my model obviously.
Thanks in advance

Hi Dizz,

We've just fitted BMW handguards from Mrs P's 05 F650GS/FL aswell as Touratech Zega 29 litre pannier system to her new G'bike so a lot of stuff fits ok.

Our new G' parts from Touratech are the same as the F' apart from the headlamp protector so a lot of the accessories are interchangeable between the F/G bikes but not to do with the instruments or headlamp surround etc, the handlebar controls are a wee bit different aswell.

I'm not sure about the HB bars though but it looks as if the engine and radiator mounting bolts are the same as the old F'bike and i'm guessing HB would use the same mounting points.

We fitted from Touratech

Upper engine bars
Lower engine bars
Sumpguard
H'lamp protector
Sidestand enlarger plate
tailpack

Have a look at www.Touratech.co.uk under the BMW section then there are seperate G/F650GS/Dakar sections where you can compare part numbers etc.

There's still a lot of interest in the new G' bike on www.F650.co.uk aswell.

Enjoy the new bike, it'll be well worth the wait.

Fitting Panniers

I still have the panniers from my old 2004 F650GS but when I bought the bike and the dealer swapped the panner racks over they said there was an additional part was needed. Apparantly the new BMW panniers will fit without this additional part.

Anyone else had this problem?

I really need some luggage soon, as camping trips with only a top box and drysack is difficult and we are going to Silverstone at the end of the month! Don't want to fork out hundreds of pounds for new panniers if I can avoid it.

Thanks

Jo

Wonder if that is why the new panniers have been falling off, hence non availability.

We ended up with http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk...removable-pannier-rack-bmw-f650gs-p-9156.html & http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=k21&categories_id=378 with my discount came in at less than £225 all in.

Only downer is the mounting of the top quick release bracket could have been better thought out to fill the hole left by removing the side fairing plug.

The mounting plates are bigger than the small Kapa panniers, but hey we don't buy luggage for the look.

About the best photo I have of them on the G

I have been promised that the fitting kit will be in next week so I will let you know if they fall off.
If anyone is thinking about buying a G 650 GS but are not sure if it has enough power I can vouch for the fact that it is faster than a Honda Blackbird ( on twisty badly sufaced single track roads and newly laid loose chippings).

As my first bike!

However I had a few questions. I am a climber and mountaineer, and I expect to need to take a few bits and pieces on the back of it as you can imagine. I also intend to do some farely long trips on it, hopefully off road but only in Europe.

What should I be looking at adding to it, other than a centre stand (which along with ABS and heated grips is already on the demo I am getting)

And is there an obvious aftermarket pannier kit I should get?

Thanks so much,

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

If this is your first bike, I'm guessing there is a congratulations due for passing your test recently! :beerjug:

We've just had our G650GS through it's first service and I can honestly say it will be a fantastic first bike for you.

For luggage, we'll probably be putting the Ventura kit on ours, but that's only because we've got the bars and bag for another bike, so it's our cheapest option. http://www.ventura-bike.co.uk

If you're not taking a pillion, you might be as easy to secure your rucksack to the pillion seat/luggage mount rather than trying to unpack on your kit into panniers, folding up your bag and then repacking it when you get to your destination. If you are going to be riding to your start point, make sure your helmet will fit in whatever option you choose.

Enjoy the climbing and enjoy your new bike! :thumb

Bit of a warning on that, the grab rail paint will rub off given the slightest hint of anything resting/tied to it.

Our grab rails are fairly fecked after our Scotland trip.

I just did 320 miles with stuff tied to the rack - no marks at all.. guess it's a not all of them!
