My 02 Adventure's having a bit of a problem. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when I had to disconnect the battery to attach a fused loom piece for connecting my new heated jacket.
It was a quick job and the jacket, duly tested, was nice and warm.
My bike has the old school ABS2, so non servo and, on starting it up this morning to come to work, I found the ABS lights flashing slowly and had lost my headlamp and main beam, but the main beam flash still works.
I switched everything off and on again, but the symptoms prevailed; No headlamp, no main beam and ABS not arming at 2.4mph
I got to work and had everything off, reverting the bike to how it was before i'd attached the extra loom part, but it's still not working.
I've checked through the bulbs and fuses, the battery's fine and all appears ok.

Any thoughts?

Did you fiddle about with any of the relays in the fuse box? I had a very similar thing happen to me a few weeks ago and one of the relays had become unseated slightly. Pull them all and push them back in.

My symptoms were:
No handle bar switches working with the exception of the starter.
No horn
No indicators
No headlights
No tail light
No idiot lights on the dash

Last week I also had a problem where the bike wouldn't start. Dash lights would glow but only slightly. Turned out the bolt on one of the battery terminals had worked loose. I'd fitted a new battery a week earlier so I suppose I didn't nip it up fully.

Check both of those things before moving on.

Ok, some muppetry on my part. I'd forgotten the 02 and earlier bikes had a light switch. Even though i'd not touched the RH muff it'd had switched the headlamp off, leaving just the sidelight.
Looks like I just need to get the ABS serviced/reset.:thumb

DOH!

With regard to the flashing ABS lights; are both flashing together with just the ignition on or flashing alternately?

Flashing alternately can be fixed with an ABS reset but both flashing together points to a different problem. You've guessed it, I've just had this problem too. It was a furred up connector for the rear wheel speed sensor. Squirt of WD-40 and an ABS reset did the trick.

Sounds like you might need to reset the ABS.

Resetting R1150GS ABS2

Locate the round diagnostic connector on top of the airbox.
With a wire, ground the brown/blue stripe wire (pin #2) and keep it grounded.
Turn the ignition on.
Hold the ABS button down for about 8 seconds.
Release the ABS button.
Turn off the ignition, remove wire.

That process has never worked for my ABS2 but a variation does:

Short the pins for the brown/blue and brown wires. Grounding the brown/blue to the frame has never worked for me;
Turn on ignition;
Hold ABS button for 60 seconds. Anything less than 60 seconds has never worked for me;
Release button;
Turn off ignition;
Remove short;

Thanks for the info folks, i'm due a service soon, so will get the whole system checked over and fluid changed, then carry out the rest of the service myself. It's much easier on my other bike with no ABS.:thumb
