ABS and ASC

Hi

I am currently looking at buying a GS1200adv. I have some questions regarding the ASC and ABS.. Is it something that is really worth while I see so many people seem to buy the ABS but i do not see many second hand bikes or people talking about ASC. Is it worth getting either of them, Has anyone got any experience they can lend me

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't care for abs tbh, its only on my bike because i didn't fancy waiting six months to get a f650 dakar without it

ASC has only been offered as an option since jan 07 ,so you won't see many if any used bikes with it on . I picked up my new 1200 gsa last saturday and opted for abs and asc ( anti slip control ) i've had abs before and found it to be necessary after using it once ! as for asc ,,well for £215 i could'nt refuse

ASC works off the back of the ABS unit, costs Bosch virtually nothing and well worth having according to those who have experienced its capability.

After all you wouldn't be considering not having ASC/ASR on a car would you?

I have all that crap and more on the car - but it has noticably more wheels than the bike - which is handy when it re-directs brakeing force to them etc etc.

I can see that being somewhat less of an advantage on 2 wheels.

Sounds perfectly sensible. When the back wheel looses traction, the clever computer will direct power away from it to the front wheel which has more grip.

Does anyone know if the ASC can be added to the 2007 version.

I did not take this option as the bike in the showroom did not have it and I was able to take delivery in 1 week. I also forgot to ask the guy at the showroom if it could be added as an option afterwards, or only delivered from new.

Funnily enough, the bloke who had a rear wheel blowout on the motorway the other day and stayed upright thought ASC was a good idea.... there's a thread somewhere. 'Course, he might have stayed upright anyway.

You can still highside with ASC, so what's the point?? Spinning up in a straight line isn't a drama.

If you spin up the rear wheel in a corner with ASC I would have thought that a high side would be compulsory, you won't have the option to low side it, even assuming your reactions are quick enough in the first place.

I've had the rear spin up on slick wet salty roads a few times and always caught it without difficulty
