Simple question probably but can someone tell me how to tell if my R 1150 GS has ABS. The dealer said 'NO' (an he's surely right|) but I noticed the dash has the ABS lights on..not that they have ever lit up.

Do the lights flash when you turn on the ignition and after you start the engine - only going out when you roll forward, along with a noise that sounds like a draging centre stand?

If so, you've got ABS.

Does it have toothed rings around the front and rear discs, with sensors to detect the wheel motion?

If so, you've got ABS.

All that assuming that the BMW accountants wouldn't fit these parts if they weren't needed!

If the bike has ABS fitted there will be button on the right hand switch gear, sensors mounted on the front and back and the "toothed ring on the disc carriers

OK Guys..and thanks. The dealer was correct of course..no ABS.

So the clutch engagement clunk is exactly that.

It would be most interesting to see the effect of all listers removing their ear plugs and what effect that would have on 'noisy clutch' complaints.

ABS-test.

You are not a chicken, are you?
;)

Find good, dry, clean tarmac, not a soul in sight:

40km/h, feets on the foot pegs, knees tight to the bike, don't lean on the handlebars, don't look down, - and try the front brake! - Fast/hard!
And keep your legs tight to the bike!
(OK, you can put your legs on the ground when you stop!)

OK? Try 50km/h.

We have to do this whitout ABS on the bike in Norway to get the licence. And it's less scary with ABS!

I'm sure if you'll figure it out. :)

Liv.
