I have just ordered my first 1200,, but should I pay the extra for ABS or not,,??.
My 1100GS and 1150 GS had ABS but I never had it activate the way I ride unless I tested It etc..
Knowing some of the brake fault reported here, am I wiser to go non ABS option???.

Geoffrey...Might I respectfully suggest that you try the search button on this one???

The very same question (In almost identical words) has been asked many many times and there are many pages of answers........click the button and sit back to read ;)

ABS or Non ABS

As the previous comment says there are reems of info on this subject, at the end of the day its your preference.

From my point of view I wanted with ABS as I beleive that when selling the bike on in a few years time it will be a 'tick box accessory' that buyers will want to see even if they never use it!

If you have ordered your bike then you must have already decided as ABS is a factory fit option and must be specified at order stage.

I have ABS and in the last 3 months I have been glad of it on two occasions.

I agree with Ianran when he says it will make a difference to the resale value.

I'd like to think theres more chance of it saving me than breaking and I'm prepared to take that chance. You have to decide if you are.

ABS?

HI Llama,, I get the bike in spring,(adv) so still have time but £800 would buy more add-ons??,.
I would love to have ABS but my pockets are a bit shallow at the moment, and as I said before, my 11 and 1150 had ABS which i never activated in anger,,maybe I will save a bit more before my deadline date??.

Had abs on 4 GSes, 1 Yamaha and countless cars and never used it! Waste of money...not in my book. If I have to use it ONCE on any vehicle, its been worth it (IMHO).

No servos, no ABS, and no linking.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm...............I might be wrong here, BUT, I think that the brakes are linked what ever option you have?

Non linked brakes is not an option?

As I say, I might be wrong and I dare say the next person to post will confirm one way or the other I suspect.

I think it depends on what you're going to do with the bike. If you're going to commute a lot on crappy uk roads in the dark, rain and slime, go for the ABS. You'll probably shift the bike in a private sale a lot easier with ABS.

Personally I think the telelever suspension isolates the rider from the front end and as such ABS is a definite bonus.....just my opionion.

Do non ABS bikes have linked brakes ?

No, they are not linked, just plain, old, ordinary, separate, hydraulic brakes that work very well indeed. :-)

They are definitely not linked - I know 'cos I have got a 1200GS without Servo/ABS brakes!
