Been searching but dont see the same fault listed anywhere.

This fault is currently very intermittent .

Turn on ignition, dash lights go throuigh startup test, either the red brake fail lamp flashes and goes out after moving forward ( like it should )

or instead of flashing , stays on solid. The abs symbol on the LCD however flashes like it should and also goes out once moved forward , even if the red lamp is solid , but no ABS available .

Checked rear lamps do not have dodgy connections , checked abs sensors as much as I can without a GS911 which obviously work ok when the fault is not present . Battery is good .

Even if the brake fail / ABS lamp does go out after moving , it can come on and stay on at random .

Nearest dealer is 100Km away and closed for all of August which is probably the soonest I could getr there .

Did 500km at the weekend with no proiblems , did 10 Km today and fault showed up 4 times after ignition off and re start .

Anyone got any ideas ?

Check the speedo sensor in the rear drive and its connector near the rear shock top mount. Failing that it could be a sticking brush on the ABS modulator motor. Google UKGSer.com repair R1200GS ABS

Thanks for thr replys so far ,

Its a 2007 bike but has the later ABS, so it could be the sticky brushes problem , its NOT sensors or connectors

Do you know of any fix rather than new modulator ?

If it is the sticky brush problem , any idea what the fault description on a GS 911 would be ?

Currently working as it shouild and cannot get the fault to show .

Google will find various stuff about how to remove the ABS modulator motor. Steptoe says its the same unit as used on smaller Fords so the whole lot can be replaced for reasonable cost.

Thanks guys , been doing a bit of reading on the Ibmw website re this problem .

I am sure this is what is happening with the motor on the ABS , there is also a US company that will fix it with a 5 yr gtee for $ 250

I like the sound of Steptoes fix better ,

Any particular part of the ABS motor that needs hitting with a screwdriver and hammer or just a general shock on the motor body ?

I could add the hammer and screwdriver to the piezzo xapper in the topbox which keeps the fuel guage working :)

Mine is a 2007 and has the ABS II (non servo ABS)

Sent from a OnePlusX

Mine is a Nov 07 build and registered Feb 08 and is non-servo ABS.
What is this screwdriver and hammer fix? I thought if a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical fault

TBH, if its got sticky motor brushes they probably wont be working properly for a lot longer so follow the instructions available, clean the motor internally and fit new brushes.

The stamped lugs holding the motor can be taken off with a sharp chisel. There should be enough remaining metal to centre pop a new "swage" when the motor is fixed.

That video is all well and good but you can't get at the brushes to clean them properly because there's a bearing on the end of the shaft preventing removal of the plastic cap. Much better in my opinion to remove abs module and send it off for refurb to a specialist company who will do it properly and return it with a lifetime guarantee for around £200. :thumb2

Pull the bearings off and replace with new. However Post 114 on here says that a Ford Fiesta part does the same job

It's not a simple swap (of course) so read it carefully.

And sometimes you'll find the bearing has collapsed - Bmw use a 50p bearing more commonly found in remote controlled cars :D. I use a top quality £4 bearing to replace it with - did a post a couple of years ago showing pictures of the fecked cheap Bmw bearing and the new one
