Accessing battery.

I’ve decided to install Hex EzCan on my R12 G/S myself. Not being very mechanically inclined or experienced.

Seems like the battery on this bike is fully under the fuel tank, so connecting the EzCan unit to battery terminals would require lifting or removing the fuel tank.

Am I missing an easier solution and if not, any guides around on how to lift the fuel tank?

Pier City Cycles have ‘how to’ videos on their website. They were one of the first custom shops to get a R12 G/S. They may be able to help.

Remove the front cowl around the tank, the one with the G/s logo. 4 screws and gently pull it up. Remove the seat, there are two torx bolts at the rear of the tank gong into the frame, remove them, then loosen the two larger ones beside them that look like they're on a hinge. The remove the torx bolt at the front of the tank.
Straighten the handle bar so you can clear them, and lift the tank from the front. On the inside of the tank on the right is the fuel line, this is clipped into a bracket, just pop it out and you can hinge the tank right up.

Do I need to drain the fuel before disconnecting the fuel line? Apologies, this may be a dumb question, but I’ve never done that before.

often on bikes with batteries hidden away there is what BMW calls a jump start post. My R1200RS had one. This could also be used to attach accessories. On the RS it was only the red + terminal hidden away inside the frame, so you could easily attach the neg lead direct to the battery but any bolt into the frame will do for the negative connection.
Have a look in your manual for jump starting the bike to see if you have a remote post connected to the battery pos terminal.

Yup, thanks, I did look at that. There is a jump start terminal just outside the tank which I think could work, but the negative terminal they suggest you use when jumpstarting is on one of the heads, so would need some other location .

Presumably you will have the actual device under the seat in the dry, so pick a bolt into the frame there where it will not corrode
