What's the best way to add a 12v socket to a 2004 F650GS? I put a stainless steel one on my Transalp wired to a spare switched fuse in the fuse box and would like to do something similar or better

you do know that there is already a 12v accessory socket on the bike, or perhaps it was only fitted from 2005:aidan

The Dakars were fitted with an accessory socket, don't know about the standard gs though.

It's a BM type socket though and it is very open to the elements.

under the left side frame down tube.

Found that, but it's a bit out of the way for my Garmin Quest. Seems like it's probably designed for heated jacket etc? Anyway not much use and I'd prefer the 'standard' fag lighter type socket but not sure where to splice it into the wiring....

Why don't you remove the BM socket where it is, and extend the wires up to your new socket??

That way you will not disturb the standard wiring:thumb

Hi I put mine on the opposite side to talltony, just be aware of the steel bracket underneath the plastic, as its a bit close, also fitted a normal ciggy lighter socket, got a short one off a local motor factors, £3ish.

Now we're getting somewhere :D Want one where talltony/GS_BOTT have theirs and I may well take your advice Flpifly and extend the wiring from the socket on the left side, and to round things off I'm going to go for Jaythro's plugs and sockets as the ciggy ones are a bit crap.... so excellent outcome :thumb2
Thanks 2 all
