Planning a few days up north shortly, waiting on some decent weather.

Stopping overnight in Ullapool and Dornoch.

Looking for clean, cheap digs/b&b.

Any suggestions or local knowledge.:thumb

Ullapool Has The Ceilidh Place, have stayed in the bunkhouse at the last couple of the "Clans" gatherings, its clean and cheepish, central (its Ullapool, everything is pretty central,) decent breakfast in the cafe round the corner. Looks to fit your needs.

The Arch Inn is my favourite, but can be a bit pricey if single-occupancy.

Caledonian is cheap and cheerful, I believe.

Shite reports from the Glenfield Hotel.

Totally agree, but then it is run by Kate & Frank who are friends of mine. Food in the local pub is great, and only 5 minutes walk away.

Oh - if you are staying in Ullapool (and I recommend you do - it's a great bike stop-over)............

Bar supper in the Seaforth Pub on the quay............. Go for the Jumbo Haddock, Chips and Mushies :thumb

The best-cooked haddock I've had - constantly :rob

(Or get it from the attached chipshop and eat on the seafront)

Ladysmith guest house is as central as you can get. Pauleen and Niven are very helpful and have single rooms as well. If you 'd like to call round and say hello when you are uphere pm me and I'll give you directions. We've got a spare room if you get stuck for accomodation.
