ACF50 protective spray instructions?

Cleaned new bike today for first time (GS 1200 SE 59) bit of a task but thats part of the fun of biking. Decided to spray on some protective spray seen recomended somewhere acf 50 or something like that. Not much in way of instructions on can as to do with aeronautical industry so not realy related.

Pink oily liquid sprayed all over exposed parts of engine gearbox exhaust etc, left to dry for bit in the sun, engine cold at this point after awhile started engine rode bike into garage, losts of smoke from sprayed parts that were getting hot, the exhaust hedders started sizling and smokeing after short time i turned off bike noticed hedders had slight staining on them where fluid had run and dried.

Have i done wrong will this stuff stain, how long does it take to dry, is it ok on plastics as well as metal?

I'd spray it into a saucer or the cap off the aerosol and use a brush to apply it.

Anything will burn on the header-pipes... maybe only use it on the silencer?

It's okay on plastics, but why would you bother?

Use a brush or even a cloth to apply it on metal surfaces.

Be careful around the brake disks.

Am I wrong in saying it's a bit early for that sort of stuff yet? I know it won't hurt but would wait a few weeks.

you only need to wipe it on with a cloth,headers will turn brown for sure with ac50 on em,uho:blast.
makes all plastics well shiny but atracts all the dirt an stiks like shit to a blanket until you hose it down,but dont use chemicals unless you want to eliminate the ac50 completely!!!!!!!!!!!!:augie

Seen quite a few mentions of front alternator cover corroding thought prevention rather than cure, right from day 1.
 
It's never too early to apply ACF50. The day you get the bike is fine as the point of doing it is to stop corrosion. Once you have it the ACF50 will help to halt it in its tracks, but why let it get started.

+1 for the brush / cloth method although some places are difficult to get at like that. The other option (if you have a compressor) is to put it in a sprayer with a lance (sometimes known as paraffin guns). High pressure will help achieve a finer mist so it should go everywhere within range, eg under the tank. But as mentioned above keep clear of the brakes.

Excellent product. I've still got bits of mild steel out in the garden after several years with no rust on.

Funny, you can spray a piece of mild steel and it doesn't rust for years. The painted metal frame of a 1200GSA though, that's a different matter! Mine went rusty after one British winter even with a liberal spray of ACF on it. From which we can deduce that BMW paintwork actually provides less protection than nothing at all! :augie
 
The bits of mild steel in the garden aren't doing 80mph so I guess that helps.
But +1 either forpoor design or paint quality

Where all the paint chipped off my centre stand I sprayed it with ACF and then added a centre stand plate and so far so good.

Any protection is better than none at all. If you wash it off (whether intentionally or on the road) you still need to replace it.
