Does anybody know a simple way to graft a USB socket off the back of the power socket by the battery ? I want to use the storage box or the lid to put a mobile phone in which is right by the back of the socket ?
There is a thread showing a splitter plug that effectively sits between the loom plug, but the splitter has a branch off it, which also has a socket, allowing you to plug in your other accessories.
Apparently it's an oem splitter cable, but clearly it's easy to make. ..
There are decent spec USB sockets on eBay.
The storage box under the seat is not a good environment for any phone. It will at least need a heavy duty case and some sort of vibration protection.
Mine (in an Otterbox case) goes in an inner jacket pocket or is well protected in the top box.
A Ram Mount on the handlebars would be handy but that would need a waterproof case & I don’t want the bulk.
Buy a decent spec USB socket on eBay and wire it to an ignition live source.

Yes I mean that little storage space under the seat at the back, more specifically I want to put it in the tray lid where the "OEM Toolkit" used to reside until I binned it !
Just connect the phone to the bars using a specific mount like a ram bolt and run the charge lead to it there. No Fannying around removing seat etc, and the phones in view for you there are specific phone charging kits like on the ultimate add ons website
Get a good power pack and it will start the bike in emergency needs. Store it’s jump leads under the seat. Keep its charger and power pack in a suitable padded bag.
If you use a phone bracket on handlebars you might still need a USB power adapter. Depends what you intend to do with the phone.
Put adapter on the beak top and power from the accessory plug socket.
This looks pretty solid. From China of course but not silly money. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/162643926793
You are all getting too complicated now All I wanted was some way of some time (not all the time) sticking the phone under the seat and charging it, possibly when the bike is not running. I need to replace the Optimate charging lead so I think I will put it in an accessible place and just get one of these:
I'm sure the bike will be fine and ditto the USB.
But the phone will likely get shaken to bits. At the very least it will need a high impact case but even that will need to be padded with anti slip mat material.
The USB circuits might not shut down so make sure it's on a 12V switched supply.
