I have just fitted, an extra rear light for night time riding.
Its one of the flashing units for cycle's.. BUT !

It also has a constant on mode,, thus not breaking the law. The batteries i am told will last a 100hrs of running time on constant, and the braket fitted to the grab rail, easily..

Sorry i cannot post a piccy, not a full member yet.. but
I was wondering what other forms of auxillery, rear lighting people used?

Is it a good idea to replace the original rear/brake buld, but a multi LED< plug in unit? Are they brighter, do they last longer??
I have heard about them but not sure if they are worth it?

I am also looking to find a red LED strip unit to wire in to give additional rear lighting. I have heard than when travelling into tunnels the standard GS unit is not too bright and the sudden change in light means its not obvious..

I have not ridden the GS in the dark yet. only had it a few weeks, so any advice/tips greatly appreciated.. cheers.

Like these..............?

I want too keep

I want to try to keep the original square unit and add an addition LED unit, just like CC's..

CC where did you get the LED unit from, and would it be difficult to wire it in, in addition, instead of replacing it, like you have?

I like the look by the way.. Looks smart...

You can get the unit from here.......... http://www.nippynormans.com/products.asp?dept=154

Alternatively, if, as you say, you want to keep the rear unit standard, you can still 'Go Led' by fitting something like this....

The LEDs in the Indicators are from here........... http://www.run-n-lites.com/Sville/Default.htm

Anyone?

Has any here actually fitted the widetail lights, they look nice, and the fact they mount in existing parts is good.

But the pictures on their website are not very clear, so has anyone got a "real life" example?

With the LEDs, in the indicator housings, do they show red, or amber?? The piccies, look unclear.

Yep

Got them on board.

I think very effetive and certainly they add a very worthwhile additional red light at the back.

I was just looking at the wide-tail brake lights as well - for the full set like.............................

Woodsie.. what they like?

Woodsie, any chance of a piccy of them in the dark if you could??
I like the look of the widetails.

Were they as easy to fit as they reckon??

Rocks

I have a set of wide-tails fitted to my 1150 and I think they look great. Sometimes I think 'how good are they really' then after walking some yards to the rear of the bike and looking back. I see
that there is a nice splash of red light emitting from the rear.
Then the other day around 5pm I was traveling out of London on the A40 on a nice sunny afternoon. Another GS catches me up, I see it some distance back as the bright orange headlamps catch my attention. I let it pass as I am not in any rush (enjoying being on my GS) and low and behold it has wide-tails fitted. They could be seen for quite some distance as it went off into the distance.

Buy and enjoy. (ps quite easy to fit)

Cheers

Cheers.. I am looking to buy a set.
Still want to at one of the eliptical sets probably below the license plate, on the mud guard extender, when i buy it.

Thanks to everyone to replied, and all the tips.. If you ever make up /or down to north wales, drop me a line.. getting kinda lonely up here.. and safe riding.. :P

They are good

Rocks,

As Tazwick says, they make quite a difference.

To be honest a photo would not really do them justice as the best benefit is from a distance due to the long range effect of the LED's.

I'll try and post some - watch this space

I bet the miserable git didn't wave either. :D

If you can track him down Malky's widetails are well worth having. Have them on the PD though we have an intermittant fault and may well transfer them to the 1150GS as they were designed for this indicator. The PD was a modification.

I would check the legality of having a flashing red light on your bike.

I was under the impression that it is ilegal to have a flashing red light attached to the vehicle be it push bike, car or motorbike. If you wear it on your person it is ok.
