Evening folks. New to this so excuse any cock-ups! Usual story - sportsbike refugee - bought new 1150gs (graphitan) in april - done 7500 miles so far! Great bike. Really enjoying it.
However with pillion/luggage the the rear preload adjuster does not cope - front goes pretty light. Don't want to invest in a new shock for the 6-8 times a year that I will load up like this - and shock is so far OK.
Read somewhere that an adjustable paralever strut (motorworks at 195 quid) is available to raise ride height at rear. Is this true? Any problems I should be aware of? Anything cheaper around? Thanks - and be gentle ok?

Timbo, greetings and welcome to the, the, the club/website/home for idiots, twats and tossers, or whatever you want to call it. You're taking to much crap on holiday with you, throw most of it away before you go, and you'll have no more problems. There you go, saved you £195 quid. Opinions are divided on the adjustable torque arms, there is a thread somewhere about them, and some nice man will put a link to it for you. pobabaly

Having been there, done that on a highly modified S, I really wouldn't put an adjustable torque arm on a GS. I ran one on my S, had it adjusted to GS length for the road, 10 mm shorter for trackdays, at the trackday length it put the driveshaft /rear hub very close to a negative angle, wouldn't want to run it like that for very long. UJ's have a habit of exploding into numerous, very expensive pieces if the angles are wrong! You'd be better off with slightly stiffer springs IMHO

I've tried a couple of setups to overcome changes in load. I have a pair of Hyperpro rising rate springs for sale if you are interested. These fit on the standard dampers and yours for £50 plus p+p.

I've fitted Ohlins so unable to use them due to different spring length and diameter.

Fitting the fronts easy, rears a little harder.

There was some talk about the adjustable torque arm here...

Thanks - oh and another thing....

Many thanks for input. I've ferreted (?) about in past threads and come to the conclusion that a new rear shock, with stiffer springs, is probably the way to go....although do not want it to be higher/stiffer all the time (as it were)....maybe I'll talk to Harris/Maxton over the next few weeks.

Change of subject (will resort to new thread if I have to) - does anyone have a spare standard seat (to fit 2003 1150) in the London to Coventry 'corridor' - I want to get mine done by Melvin Hunter? Why does every one seem to choose the 'basket weave' covering - keep it plain me thinks. Thanks in quivering anticipation....

Vaguely interested in the Princetown bash this weekend (other half away - hurrah!) - but not knowing a single other person attending I am slightly concerned about any ritual humiliations that you save up for new folks like me? Will I regret it? Sad and lonely? Sore? Tent slashed to ribbons?

Anyway - thanks for help and input.

PS - tobinators too clever for their own good - still bloody twiddling..........

Don't be such a tart, get your self down there and meet people, call in at Gordano services for the trip down, and I bet you £20 that you're not the biggest tosser there. (safe bet that one, cos I know that Paul Gs going:D :D :D )

everyone
thanks for the kind, and welcoming, words of encouragement. if i can get away on friday sometime - i'll definitely be coming. at last - a like minded group of REAL tossers.
