My bike is approaching completion (2003 1150GS Adv). I have fitted Verholen rider lower footpeg links and Fastway footpegs (in their higher position) - this is the exact combination I had fitted to my last bike.

Taking it out for an early test ride, it became apparent that the brake pedal and gear lever needed to be adjusted downward.

The gear lever was easy, and gave me an excuse to make sure the linkage was well lubricated. However, I'm not sure how to adjust the brake lever. Undoing the locknut on the fork at the base of the master cylinder rod and adjusting the rod length merely alters where the brake starts working and has no effect on where the pedal sits.

Has anyone successfully altered the height of the brake pedal?

When I fitted my wunderlich lowering kit, it came with a shorter rod, which replaces the standard rod which goes between the rear of the brake pedal and the master cylinder.

If you remove the the rod, it just pulls out from the master cylinder dust cover. You should be able to increase the threaded portion enough to give you adjustment so that you can cut 5mm off it's over all length. This will swing the lever around and down.

There was also a longer bolt to adjust the lever/micro switch.

I hope this makes sense, if not, if not I will try and upload a picture.:thumb

Picture paints a thousand words.

you can see the standard rod in front of the replacement shorter rod. to give you some idea of what you need to do.

You do #1 to adjust the pedal height and #2 to adjust when the brake light comes on.

However, I don't know the minimum freeplay that you should have on the pedal. Mr Haynes does not tell me although it mentions to make sure you have it set :blast

#1, #2...

Eh?

I think he means:

#1 shorten the length of the rode between the back of the brake pedal and the master cylinder. This will allow the brake pedal to travel further down, but because of the return spring it will come back to the stop.

#2 increase the length. Of the stop screw. You may need to fit a longer bolt so that the pedal is positioned further down and stays down.

If you can't position the pedal far enough down then you may need to shorten the master cylinder push rod.

It's a combination of shortening the back and lengthening the front to move the pedal around its pivot point.
