Hello All,
Making a decision between Zega alu cases or the BMW Adventure cases. Im in two minds at the moment. I fancy the Adventure cases but previous posts tell me the hinges are shit. Enlighten me. While im here anyone one got any experience on a sargent seat. They look good but will they save ass ache.
Thanks.

David, I have the Zega panniers and one of my friend's has the Adventure with Adventure cases and top box.

His comments were that the panniers were reasonable and quite strong when he slid off in sand and dirt and that the plastic hinges were remarkably strong. The marks on the panniers and the plastic locking mechanism, bear testimony to that.

However the top box was another matter as it is really a R/H pannier converted to a top box and as such wasn't as good as a dedicated top box from someone like Touratech.

Another friend has Zega panniers and Zega Top Box on his Aventure and I don't think that the mounting mechanism is a weak point, but, with plenty of mud and/or sand, it could foul up the sliding pieces of metal and their springs a bit.

I myself having seen them both close up and in use, I think both will do the job for 90% of use. However if you want extreme use, then the Zega would be the better option IMHO.

The strongest mounting system between the two is the Zega system, but we are talking about a fine line here.

Not sure where he gets this from, both the left and right BMW ali panniers are interchangeable and are larger than the topbox which is approximately 66% their capacity.

Had no bad experience with the hinges but would lick a strap to stop them swing through 180 degrees.

They do make the bike wide tho!! I can get my handle bars through my gate no trouble but not the hips so I have to dismount take the panniers off remount and continue!!!

Have been using the system case bags for the 1150RT as when expanded they fit snug below the lid...

i have the adv cases.. and the topbox as well,, plus i changed to the adv seat from the normal gs seat..

i find the adv seat a lot more comfortable as i can ajust my seating position easier.. and its higher as well for my long legs.,

the cases are great, esay to put on and off, and are interchangeable, if i fancy a big topcase i stick on the left side case in the topbox slot and it can hold loads,,

im fitting little straps to stop the hinges going.. but they should be ok..

the boxes themselves are pretty big, but do make the bike wide..

and i find that the bungeey hook thingys on the lids stick into my passengers lower legs, just makes it a bit uncomfortable.. but i suppose it depends on the person..

if in was going on a rtw id have zega or even better verns cases, but for normal touring and day to day living teh bmw cases are great..

regards
