Adventure Rider UK Rally.. 21/22 April. Who's going?

Just a note for anyone coming for the road rides, there's nothing really pre-planned for that as its never been clear how many will want a road ride, so do be prepared for a Fri eve or Sat morning conflab and route plan. I reckon there will be a fair few turning up who have good local knowledge anyhow:augie :D

It looks like there's a few road ride takers tho.

I'll be there! leading the off-road run on Saturday

not wishing to step on anyones toes, I'm still a bit battered from inverting my adv and from dislocating an ankle (not the same incident ) so the amble that I mentioned earlier will probably be about my limit for the day, so if two or three 1150/1200 fancy the above route then I'll be happy to lead

Rob

Are you there sunday too Robbie?

I was planning to do the Strata Florida on Sunday, Rich, with the ones who have time to play a bit longer. Happy to hand over to Robbie, I really don't mind.

Can confirm that the route is GS-able at the moment (did it yesterday and only came off once... :mmmm).

Saturday's run will take us to more to the west along the Claerwen Reservoir to Ffairn Rhos and then up north-west to the Dovey Estuary (lunch at Tre'r-ddol) - probably a 100 miles round-trip.

Haven't had time to analyse the track-log yet or write a proper ride report - but all the lanes are suitable for big trailies on knobblies, mainly hard-packed dirt, rocks and hill-climbs, and no worse than what we did in the Dolomites. Although we will avoid a few lanes should it be wet... :D

Will post a link to the report here when it's finished.

CU Friday night!

could be as I live in Hereford which is only an hour away

what do you have in mind ???

Rob

so, do you want me to lead a road run on saturday ? if so, how many want to do one
the one that I have in mind goes all around the brecon beacons on B roads with lunch at abergavenny then across to hay on wye for tea and cakes, across the common to erwood and then back to rhayder

any takers ????????????

Rob

Would be good, Robbie. On advrider the couple or so interested in road rides were happy to juts go for a blat around but I'm sure would welcome some local knowledge. A mate with a ZX6R may come up who know the roads as well and he suggested

'big triangle taking in Llandovery, and Abergavenny.... should do most people, could also detour onto Black Mountains if people wanted too...'

and Someone else suggested
'good loop from Rhayader down to Builth Wells on the A470 then back up the A483, stopping at Crossgates for a coffee (cafe very popular with bikes), then up to Newtown still on the A483 before returning to Rhayder again on the A470. Shouldn't take more than a hour or so, depending if and how long for you stop at Crossgates.

If you go on the A44 back towards Kington (beware of the few hairpins between Penybont and Radnor - fun they are but they sneak up on you real bloody quick and tighten up something amazing, not what you need when your pushing on a bit and don't realise what you're going into.) but before you reach Radnor turn right onto the A481 back to Builth you'll go down a stormer of a road. Quite tight and narrow at points but some brilliant corners and some nice fast sweepers - just watch the sheep.

Another reccommendation is the Lynn Brianne reservoir which isn't too far away. From Beulah head to Abergwesyn taking the turning up the side of the big white house which takes you eventually towards Tregarron. After you've done the small, tight hairpins and come down the hill the other side take a left and keep going - the scenery is just amazing. Be careful though as the tracks are mainly single tracks with passing places and there are plenty of blind corners and long, long drops down the sides of the road.'

But these are sportsbike riders, so I guess folks may prefer the mountain road to Aber etc. They are also non-GPS types so you can see their brain works differently :-)
But if you want to step up to the plate Robbie would be great! :clap

Edit, loads of routes here courtsey of assorted chaps on here.

I have short toes so they are very hard to tread on!

I guess what will probably happen on Sat is that we'll start off with a plan and rapidly revise it in the light of events (the basic rule: no plan survives first contact). We will rely on maps technology and local knowledge, and there will probably be several leaders through the day, depending on who has the maps, technology or local knowledge. It will be an adventure tho!

I'll be in the campsite on Fri night from about 18:00.

See you there!

I have NO maps, technology or local knowledge,BUT I do have a sense of Adventure which is why I'm coming (If my tent ever arrives), if I get lost I'm sure it'll be temporary.:green gri (I'm relying on luck, faith and erm you guys).
Hope to meet you friday night.:beerjug:

the road route that I would be planning is definatley NOT for sports bikes, in fact you could only just call some of them roads at all :D :D :D :D

I would give the zxr 20 miles before he quit :green gri

I don't see the point in going to wales and not losing yourself in the mountains for the whole day and I certainly don't want to ride around on A roads, I did that when I had an inferior bike

however, I didn't plan the day so it's upto you chaps :clap :nenau

Finally got round to start a ride report of our big-trailie-recce-run last weekend.

Just bear in mind - the tricky bits are usually the ones where you can't stop to take photographs... :D

I ride with a guy called Garry Holloway and I think he knows everybit of the welsh trails as he's been riding and 4x4ing them for the last 25 years

I know a few of the routes you went on thanks to Garry, if you run another weekend later in the year we may be able to get his input

he's in marocco at the moment:( :( :(

No, no..please go ahead. I take them on some little tracks I call roads around here and they go home with three adam's apples usually. They can find their own places to play. Your nice 'roads' will be ideal :thumb2 :clap
