I finaly managed to get all the bits for correctly installing the adventure screen on my GS

Screen £45 (Ebay)
Support thing £48 (Ebay)
Bolts etc £20 (SBW)

Where do you get the four armed six handed alien to fit it ? :blast

I think i have done it but can someone please post a picture of how it should be from the screw thingy inwards and yes i have seen the microfich pic.

Too late for pictures but I don't remember it being particularly hard. A little fiddly to hold all the bits in place while putting the big adjusting screws in.

The only problem I had was the extra thickness the adjusting screws go through with the addition of the top brace made it difficult to unscrew them enough to adjust them. I solved this problem by removing the two dome headed nuts which stop the screws coming right out, place a small off-cut from a smaller screw inside each (just a few mm long) and screwing the nuts back into place. The nuts now tighten against the off-cuts inside and the extra few mm that the adjusting screws can undo makes a big difference.

Jim,

If you bugger it up, then you can't slacken things off enough to adjust the screen. :blast

After a spot of swearing and taking it apart again, you might just notice that the plastics are actually marked L & R to help you :thumb

Don't ask me how I know this, as it's embarrassing!! :hide

Bikerjim, i'm in Royston if you want to have a look at mine to check you're welcome. By the way when I swopped from my GS with a NN High and Wide to the GSA I was extremely disappointed with the increased wind noise. Still not happy with it but its better than the standard GS of course.
Regards Brian.

Having done this a few times now I agree this is not the simplest of tasks. To get the end domed nuts on I use a magnetic telescopic arial type thingy to hold the nut while I rotate the adjuster. Works well enough and stops those "oh god where I have I dropped it this time" moment when you drop one.

It was a bit confusing as i had purchased all the bits and put them in a plastic tub. I seem to have more bits than needed which seem to confuse even more.

One of the end bits had a broken bit which made it more confusing.

Very happy with the result :D

Brain i might have to have a look at yours so i know its ok :thumb

What's it like?

Those of you that have changed from a standard GS screen to the adventure, how much of a difference is there? Does it reduce the wind blast on your arms or do you need the wingets to help with that?

Cheers

GS TO GSA Screen

I changed mine and found that it "is" better in all areas.
Its a little taller and slightly wider at the top which takes the wind blast of your shoulders a bit........... but narrower in the middle where you get a slight blast to the mid section.

Not sure about wingets as I have not fitted them.

The tinted adv screen look really good and the "cross bar thingy" is usefull for mounting your GPS on.

I prefer it

I rode an adv and standard 09 back to back at motorway speeds and noticed a big difference on the adv. Not perfect but close, a lot better than standard. As I wasn't sure how much of the difference was screen against winglets and winglets where the cheapest option I now have standard screen and winglets (Price the genuine bmw I was surprised good vfm). They’ve removed the buffeting I had from waist to shoulders. Will be buying the adv screen as soon as funds allow. For the record 5' 11 with plenty of pies on board.

I had the same swearing and cussing trying to get mine back on
i ended up assembling all the parts for one side together through the hole in the screen with a small cable tie done both sides then placed the screen in place cut the cable ties then refitted the adjusting screws and nuts :aidan

I still believe that the Nippy Norman High and Wide with winglets for me was more successful than the GSA screen with winglets. I started with standard GS then bought the winglets, then the NN which was very good. Then changed bikes to a 09 GSA and the noise was worse. Around 80mph plus it is very uncomfortable for me.

Bikerjim, youre welcome anytime just call me as I am at home most days now..redundant/unemployed!
