Adventure side stand

I have found the side stand on the Adventure is on the short side on anything but level ground. When I have the boxes on even lightly loaded, it leans at an alarming angle to the point where it feels as though it could topple over. I have knocked up an aluminium disc that I have bolted to the underside of the foot that is approx 1/2" thick. This sits the bike at a safer angle and has increased the footprint, making it less prone to sink into the tarmac.
My other gripe with the side stand is that it doesnt lock out with weight on it, The bike has wandered off several times when I have left it idling on the side stand whilst doing gates etc only to topple over onto the engine bars. I am looking at modifying it with some sort of detent mechanism that will lock it out when it has weight on it but allows it to pivot freely when there is no weight.

I also have trouble with my 1100gs, it rolls forward's off the sidestand when loaded up so i leave it in gear ( as it won't run with the stand down ) i believe the 1150 is neutral switched so it will still tick over. If you find a way of locking down the side stand i would be interested to know how,

Cheers

I started mine on the side stand the other night, the neutral light was on, but it was actually in gear and took off by itself before toppling over yet again!! This bike has fallen over at least 5 times on its own accord, I have never owned a bike like it... I always rock it to and fro to make sure now...

Although this doesn't address the problem with the sidestand. When opening gates etc. I generally kill the engine by kicking the sidestand out whilst in 1st gear, instant 'parkingbrake', then dip the clutch flip, the stand up and hit the starter as you're ready to move off. Works for me on an 1150.

There is someone out there who makes front handbrakes attachments which you can hold the brake on untill you over ride it by twisting the throttle, (Iv seen this on Honda Pans)),.

I've got in the habit now of leaving the bike in 1st gear whenever I need to get off it, parking or whatever. When parked up in neutral it takes only a gentle nudge from behind or a tiny down slope to see it plop gracefully onto the engine bars. Usually with an appreciative audience.:o

It's called the Middleton Handbrake and doesn't fit the 1150GS :( I asked!
