A friend is looking at buying a 1996 R1100RT with 50k miles on the clock to use as a motorway commuter donkey. I own a GS and know a little bit about them but know nothing about RT's. Can anyone suggest anything to look out for when buying an RT of that age and mileage?
Any advice is gratefully accepted
Cheers

Thanks mikeboy will bear that in mind.
It does seem cheap at £1500 (autotrader ad price) but then I've no idea what the right price for this bike would be. It has some service history and only four owners in 20 years which sounds good to me.

My buying price for a corroded knacker is sub £1k,it will cost big time to make it "nice"
Have a look at my thread on the 1150 project, it will give you an idea of what's involved to smarten things up,
Of course you ride it as is ,but I couldn't own a rusty dog,it would mess with my head.:D:comfort

If you can find one with the later M97 gearbox that would be good, though I think they started to fit the M97 box sometime in 96.
