Not really sure
Being as I am a bit of a komputa donut, I wuz wondering about the following. My PC is a bit slow, and will possible need some work doing on it in due course. In addition, the CD drive needs replacing as well. However, I am not in a position to do this as yet for various reasons. I have a number of fotos, etc which could do with buring to a CD rom. I can't do that with the PC as the drive is nkackered.
Is it possible to link a laptop to the PC in any way, so I can transfer the files to that, and then save them via the laptop CD drive?
If this all sounds a bit numptyish, humour me, I am indeed a numpty.

They can be linked if a) they both have network cards, and b) they are both running Win XP. It can be done if the above conditions aren't true, but will be much more complex. Assuming you're getting a new machine, the simplest way is prolly to remove the disk from the old machine and put it as a slave in the new one and copy anything off it that you need.

thank you LRR - bugger, its not gonna be easy then. I think I wil have to concentrate on replacing the drive instead.
Never mind.

Phil.....how many pics???

Or put better, what total file size???

You have another option.....you can upload them to some free web space, which you will almost certainly have with your ISP account, or you can upload them to one of any number of free pic hosting sites...the drawback there is that most have adverts etc but so what, it's free.

There's also Smugmug....the best pic hosting site IMO (and I can get a discount on the account for you if ya like ;) )

Another option is to get a g-mail account (do a search on this forum and you'll find many people who will be able to sort you one out) and then email the pics to yourself....they'll then remain on the server and you can access them anytime.

CD burners are only 25 quid by the way if you wanted to buy one.

I can do you a gmail invite, in fact you could have 10 if you want which would give you 20GB of space as each account is up to 2GB of storage now. Lots of other people can help too, I'd imagine.

Let me have an email address via PM and I'll get it going if you want - I'll be in front of this machine most of today so I can do you a quick turnaround and you can spend the weekend emailing yourself...
