Have had my new[ish] 1150 for about a week now.
Love the bike but urgently need to do something about the screen.
Anybody in this area fitted a screen that works reasonably well?
Could I come and have a look?
I don't want to waste time and money experimenting if I can help it.
Would be grateful for any advice.:beerjug:

You need to tell us more about what kind of screen you have now (ie original Adv screen, aftermarket etc) and what kind of problems you are experiencing ?

Cheers.

Screen

Tom, you could try an MRA screen.. I've had alot of different combinations.. Standard GS, Wunderlich, Adventure screen, Tobinators on all of them...

Tobinators would be my first approach if you are getting a bit of buffeting.. I finally settled on an MRA screen, as it has an adjustable aerofoil on it to fine tune the airflow...

Good luck with the bike

Also very impressed with the MRA Vario screen...best I've tried for me but there again I'm only 5'11/6ft.

Thanks for the advice recieved so far.

I should have mentioned on my first post that the bike has a standard screen, and that my problems are buffetting and wind noise. I also get the impression that a lot of the wind is coming around the sides of the screen.
Also, at 5'9'', my height is unlikely to be causing a problem.

Cheers,

Tom.

I am 5' 10" tall and had an MRA 2-piece on my standard GS1150 which was a real pest for buffetting and noise before I fitted the MRA. Post-MRA, plus the fitting of Tobinators, it was much better.

Now I have a GS1150 Adv with an absolutely standard GSA screen, I find it really really good. Very little noise and buffetting and I still don't know why it's so good. It may all be relative though and most GSA owners on this board have also reported good results by converting to either a "barn door" such as the Aeroflow screen or such like, or going for an MRA 2-piece plus Tobinators.

Good luck ............. and happy riding in Waterford, a truly beautiful place with a nice line in crystal !

Thanks Alex,

Having read a lot of screen posts over the last week, I had more or less narrowed it down to either the MRA or the Adventure screen, both with tobinators.
I was also hoping to see what some of the local 1150 owners had done.
However nothing from them so far.

Cheers,

Tom.

MRA Vario

Hi Tom,
I've got the MRA Vario fitted without tobinators to my 1150GS and am 5'8".Find it way better than standard, but there's still a bit of windblast on my shoulders.Been using it since last October. The screws that hold the adjustable upper piece tends to get stuck if not lubed often.Mine's stuck now..tried spraying wd40 and left overnight..but no use. Will have to try something else.
Hope this helps.Cheers.

Just to sow more confusion ...

T I had more or less narrowed it down to either the MRA or the Adventure screen, both with tobinators.

... why not try some of this wind deflecting screen edging stuff as seen below; I'll even try and find the name as it's on here somewhere. It claims to increase effective screen size by up to 4" ;)

No good for me then as I'm a short Arse :D

Howya Tom,

I'm 6'2" myself but am not too bothered by buffeting at all. I just have the standard screen tilted back fully which seems to suit me fine.

I suppose it's a very personal thing as to which screen will suit different folks, what works for others may not work for you at all at all.

If the standard settings on the standard screen are not curing the problem it may be best (and less expensive) to start off with a set of Tobinators and see how you get with them before lashing out lots of € on a screen.

Hi, I too would go for the tobinators first, and possibly an Adventure screen too, I have an Adventure and a pal of mine converted his standard 1150 after borrowing my screen lol. I did get it back :D

Cheers.

Hi John,

I like the idea of the Adventure screen. It looks slightly wider than the MRA, especially at the bottom. Was your pal happy with the Adventure screen on his 1150?
If I fitted one I would use tobinators as well.

Cheers,

Tom.

Hi Tom
I have an r1150gs with an Adventure screen and I think it does a great job at stopping the buffeting, even way past legal speeds ..It is still noisey but then I have a remus and y- piece so wear earplugs when I remember . I tried Tobinators with the Standard screen and while they worked after a lot of adjusting and testing I didn't like the way they looked on the bike. The Adventure screen suits me and I am 5'10 in height. If you are lucky you may get a second hand one on here or ebay , but remember you will need the adventure fittings as well.
