I need some help and advice on aux Hella lights BigTrailBikeRider please.

A week or so ago I bought some second-hand Micro DE lights on eBay from Germany. I believe they may have been originally fitted to a car, but am not too bothered as I can fabricate wee mounting brackets for them.

This is what arrived in the post;

The little holes in the body of the light seem to be for mounting and tilting the lamp. They are not threaded, so would it be possible to tap them to suit mounting bolts?

At the rear of the light is a socket for the wiring loom to plug into. What is the other hole for? A rear bracket?

This is a close-up shot of the fixings that came with the lights. I dont know what the longer fixings are, but they do not seem to fit the lamps. Might they be car related?

Finally, the lamps are fitted with H3 55W bulbs. Are these suitable?

I hope you can help with these queries. It's a shame you don't reside on this side of the Irish Sea. :)

Thanks.

Aidan

it looks like they have never been fitted ,

the holes in the side of the lamps are where the U shaped bracket tightens up onto ..

when u buy them new the lamp has no thread in it and the bolts have that blue stuff round them, as soon as u start to tighten them up they cut their own threads ... pics down there

the back bit is deffo car specific and hummm .... looks like it has a waterproof connection similar to the injectors usually its a big rubber boot
yea a 55w h3 is normal

hope this all helps

Thanks Number8

The pics of the mounting brackets and the wee bolts are very helpful. :thumb

I reckon that the back bit should be water-tight, given that they would probably be mounted low in the front of a car and are therefore likely to have a lot of crap thrown up around them.

Now all I need to do is search for wiring diagrams.

Cheers again mate. :clap

A bit late to reply sorry!

I think that all your questions have been answered already?

I suspect that the other hole you mention is nothing more than a vent to allow the hot air to escape or to allow cool air in, either or really?

When the lights are mounted into a car spoiler they can get very hot as there is no air circulating around the body and inparticular at the rear of the light unit where the bulb is located.

Hence the reason for the vent, both versions of the DE range have it. But this one is a lot larger than the normal DE's, mainly due to the increase in the need to dissipate all that generated heat.

Hopefully that has helped you?
