Hi all....

I'm thinking of fitting the wheels off an R 1150/R to my 2001 1150GS.

They have brand new Metzeler M1s fitted, and the rear is sized 170 - 60, whereas my 1150GS is 150 - 60.

The question is: will the slightly wider 170s fit or not ?

Thanks to anyone taking the trouble to answer...

Yes it will...

5" wheel width = 170 tyre width
5.5" wheel = 180 or 190 tyre

All options above will fit the rear of the GS but be prepared for the fact that you will effectively be gearing it down by around 3% as the rolling circumference of the sports tyres is slightly smaller than the std GS ones.

You might want to look into getting a 3-spoke front wheel from an R1100R/RS/RT as they're usually slightly cheaper & the brake discs on these are full floaters... Try the "search" button & you'll find loads of useful stuff :thumb2

Thanks for that reply Paul..........very helpful.

Another question though...........how will fitting a smaller wheel to the front affect the speedo reading?
I've got a Touratech IMO computer on board but losing 2" in wheel size will screw up the read-out.
What adjustments need to be made to correct this?

You'll need to check the instructions for your IMO as they should tell you how to set the computer for the wheel/tyre size you're using.

With the Std speedo, you just change the speedo drive gear for the correct one...
