I'm considering fitting a Remus exhaust (model: revolution inc. y-piece) to my 1150GSA. Does anybody have any comments on this versus say an Akrapovic?

I also have touratech zega panniers (one 41L and one 35L i.e not cut away version) will the exhaust interfere with (heat/blacken) either the pannier or indicators? (I intend to leave the baffle in place).

Meltingly hot...

Hi – my came with an oval Remus exhaust and then I fitted the same Zega panniers you mentioned. I found that the LHS pannier was getting very hot and there was a risk (in my view) of the plastic retaining clip melting with subsequent disasters. I was lucky and fitted a standard BMW exhaust back to the bike and though my pannier still gets hot on long runs (200 miles plus) it’s just hot and not meltingly hot...

You will Find it will work ok without the Y piece.
But the Std set is the one i would recomend for ,pannier use.
Melting on a Long spin is an Issue .

I solved a similar problem before my first trip to Morocco couple years ago. I finaly decided to buy the Remus Revolution Exhaust and Y-piece from TT dierctly for my 1150GSA. I had chance to compare other exhausts like Akapovic, DaVince, Laser and the Remus was subjective the best one. I also advise you to be sure that you will buy exhaust model designed for y-piece (not for catalisator!).

I've got a laser duo tone carbon can and Y piece and have no problems with my panniers getting hot.

Not really sure on the GS.
On the R1150R Remus Revolution + Y I ended up having a "black" turning indicator. Not a big deal.
Same thing can happen on the GSA.

I started having some melting problems with the panniers (plastic touring ones) after some 30/50k kilometers... but probably a little accident that bended slightly the part of the bike where the exhaust is attached might have helped in creating this problem.

Oh, I also removed the DB killer from the exhaust... :augie

I noticed that remus also sells a different version of the exhaust with a longer final part (sorry - I have no clue what's the name of it in english).
Tourathech also sells a small metal support (I bought it) you can attach to the end of the exhaust when nedeed. A few quid only.

I have a Laser system on my 1100 and the 35/41 zegas, theres a little sooty patch on the pannier but no issues with heat, with my standard exhaust I had a warm pannier, I dont keep food or chocolate in there.

its the y piece that makes the power, not the silencer, use any, jus depends on what noise u like

If you ride around in traffic in cities the indicators will get sooty, not enough that they can't be seen, and you just wipe the soot off.

If you travel across continents at high speed day after day the indicators may melt.

Your choice.

Thanks to all for comments very useful and much appreciated. I take point that Y piece improves the power. BMW spoke to Remus and apparently they have extended the revolution pipe slightly to avoid the heat/ sooting problem. I will keep an eye on melting indicators on long trips (this sounds like a price worth paying for a good trip)...take a cigar each and 10 points for Griffindor.

Y peice

Problem my Ypeice along with others I've come across don't make any difference to power at all. I reckon buying second hand the power must be an extra!, lighter, yes, more power Nah cobblers.
