basically I need a pair that are:

- properly cool, lots of airflow
- short
- have solid knuckle protection
- high quality (as in, if the worst happens, I don't want to watch them disintegrate, followed by the palms of my hands, and think "Why didn't I spend an extra tenner?")

GS efforts? Are those the same as the "Summer" glove? Other stuff out there?

Grateful for suggestions.

I just bought a pair of these....

Look like Alpinestars GPX gloves - or maybe cheap copies:augie

GPX are great summer gloves - need wearing in but once done they are the best short gloves on the market IMO:)

Not short but possibly the coolest gloves ever. Saw my first pair last Sunday and now want some. Knox Handroid:

Yup - 50 quid as opposed to 80 quid and odds on that they're made in the same factory. They're certainly going to take some breaking in as well.

I just bought a pair of the new Halvarrsson 2011 range Briad Summer Gloves, from Skin's, Brackley for £50

They will tick all your boxes, I'm chuffed to bits with them and their real comfortable +CE approved protection

Living in a place that has "Real" summers :augie and doing a lot of travelling into moutainous area's as well as long runs on tarmac with temps ranging from 25deg to 47deg C, we have found that the Richa Magma glove is the bees-knees!

Good solid protection, yet vented enough to allow good airflow through all the conditions!

Try Martin at Helmet City! :thumb

(oh - and quite arrogantly the label inside reads: "The Worlds Best Glove" :beerjug:

Thanks all - top advice and loads I hadn't thought of/considered

I use Gimoto race efforts as my non-winter glove and they've been brilliant on my K1200S (as was, got chopped in for the GS this week) but they're long and despite good venting they're still warm/hot as you'd expect from a race glove with the level of protection.
Also, on the GSA, I don't need the finger-webbing element, which is actually a pain when doing anything other than climbing all over a sports-oriented bike.
FInally, now I've got carrying capacity, I can afford to hurl kit in the bozes for weather changes, as opposed to picking do-it-all options.
Really like the look of those A-Stars, in fact all your suggestions look quality.
I notice nobody has suggested the Motorrad options, which I presume (judging by the time you've all been on BMWs) means they're not much cop?

+1 for the Alpinestars GPX gloves.

I use them all summer here in Cyprus, up to 35C, and they are fine. As DrAlf said, take some time to soften up, but after a few months they are very comfortable. Size wise, they seem to be on the small size to what they say, so make sure that you try a pair if you wanted to order on the net.

Took a punt today all and went for some GS Pros. Three hours in the sun on the ride back home they were great, and v v cool (temp-wise). Will need a little breaking in though.....

I have the BMW Rallye 3 gloves for summer use. Got them last year when local BMW dealer had £15 off trade in offer on old gloves. Find them really comfortable and well ventilated.

I also have BMW summer gloves which are quite a different design. They are lightweight with goretex, but are not short, not ventilated nor do they have any solid knuckle protection.

The Knox Handroid gloves looked cool in the pictures but looked at them at the same time (as the BMW Dealer was a Knox stockist) but they were quite large and clumsy so gave them a miss.

Got caught out last year in Germany in 34 degress plus heat so bought a pair of HELD AIRSTREAM gloves . They worked out a t £65. Kangaroo leather, part kevlar lined, full knuckle and palm protection, plenty of vent holes and they have a nifty idea where the area between the fingers is a rinforced mesh to allow loads of air into the hands.

Love them to bits

Have a look at the Harlvasson range. Mine are outlasting the MbW ones I used to use, and they only cost £28:thumb2

I've been trying to find some of these (well the black ones anyhow), but can't find a stockist near me (Chesterfield). They look awesome, like something out of Terminator. The main reason though is that my hands are my living and so want as much protection as possible for them, and these look like they'd fit the bill. I'm reluctant to buy online as don't know what size I'd need.

I've also been trying to find some summer/racing gloves (so nice and thin for good control) that are also waterproof. The only ones I've come across are these

but again I can't find a stockist near me :(

I definitely recommend trying a pair first. I thought they looked awesome but for a few reasons I decided not to get them (and could have got £30 off them at the time).

I can't quite remember what the issues were but I think one of the problems was that the cuff was not that wide as it was probably designed for going over a set of leathers and not a bulkier textile cuff. I am sure the fingers moved fine though and felt protected.

Hi Snerkler, have you tried Mick Bryne in Mansfield? I was in there today and he has Knox gloves.
