Hi all,

Over the last few years I've picked various tips up from this
forum, for which I'm grateful. I'd now be obliged of some more...!

For the past 3 years we've visited the NUrburgring, spent a few days
there and then headed down to the B500 for some more joys.

This year we've all got longer passes and would like to go up a
Mountain...! We're still planning to spend two nights in Nurburg, and
Hopefully spend a day in the Black Forest, but would like to do
Something differnent for the 2 or 3 nights on between.......

Therefore does anyone haves any recommensations for where to go
and stay, ideally within a few hundred miles of Nurburg (Several sports
bikes going who don't want to spend all week with kit on !), and that will
enable us to get back to the 500... ?
N
In an ideal world the hotel would b somewhere from which we can "make a
night" of it for at least one evening......

Any advice gratefully received....

All the best

Ollie

Have you considered a couple of days on the Mosel basing yourself at Klotten, a couple of kilometres north of Cochem? There's an excellent Hotel/B&B there called Hotel Zur Post http://progressive.kelbymediagroup....s/2012/07/7494982746_6e6f6f377c_k-620x413.jpg . Prices are quite reasonable, food is excellent and the owner (a biker himself) caters for bikers in so much as there is a huge garage alongside the Hotel, bike washing facilities if wanted/need and a large range of tools for the use of. Over after dinner coffee the owner will gladly recommend you several alternative routes to suit the type of bikes in your group.

Leaving Klotten, you could head West via Trier maybe, and to the mini town of Vianden. The Hotel Aal Veinen where again the food and accommodation are excellent and garage facilities are also provided. There are plenty of good tours to be had in the Eifel region and you're also not too far from motorway access for a quick dash home if so wanted/needed.

Vosges.

It's the French half of the Black Forest, the other side of the Rhine, broadly centred on Colmar. Lots of excellent roads, villages and small towns.

Perfect.

EDIT EDIT EDIT....

The capability of being able to edit earlier posts would be nice :) as it appears that once someone else has posted this capability is removed.

It's not removed, nor does it have anything to do with a subsequent post.

The ability to edit is there, for a limited time which then expires.

I have just edited my earlier Vosges post..... Just for fun :beerjug:

I don't like to agree with Wapping, or he gets all cocky and starts reminding people about which King Henry said what and to whom, but on this occasion I have to concede he's right: the Vosges in france have some great roads and nice towns.

Gerardmer is as good a base as any.

Oops - I made a mistake in posting the link to Hotel Zur Post in my last post.......project I was working on. The proper link is of course http://www.hotelzurpost-klotten.de/english/index.html

Any chance of seeing the rest of the photos from your ...erm... project? :D

If you're heading down the B500 then why not head a bit further South and ride to Andermatt. It's only an hour and a half from the border at Waldschut.

When you get there you can ride the Susten, Grimsel, Furka, Nufenen, Oberalp, and St Gotthard passes, and a bit further will get you to a host of others.

+1 :thumb

You have the opportunity yo do some Proper Alps as above, or stop near Martigny and loop around Mont Blanc covering about 8 passes - like Andermatt you can do a fantastic full day on some of the most amazing passes the Alps has to offer.

Nothing wrong with the Vosges, but the Alps will be that bit better in every respect, higher, prettier and less congested.

+2 for either Andermatt loop or around Mont Blanc. Got to be done, some of the best riding you'll ever do.:thumb

If you do Andermatt, you can take in the old cobble stone pass of La Tremola and/or the San Gottard. It's quite an experience!

Going back next year on way to Dolomites and Austria, was there in 2010 and started up the Tremola, but it was quite a rough ride on a sportsbike so we turned back and tok the new road.

As long is it ain't wet I plan on riding the cobbles next year :D

Good man. I did it on my old K1200 GT 'Flying Brick' which proved a bit of a handful but well worth doing. :thumb

Sorry for delay all, but many thanks for the advice... Think the cunning plan now is to do 2 nights in Nurburg, 2 or three nights somewhere in The Vorges, then a few nights further along the B500...

Thanks again...
