A couple of us have a pass for a Sunday morning play and are looking at the best lesser known roads to try.

I'm on a 12 with Tourances and matey is on a Buell Useless with similar tyres.

Finding the small roads isn't a problem as such but we have just seen on Google maps a lane running off the A6187 Hathersage road and wondered if it was legal to ride on?
It sort of sounded some alarms as the first part is called Bridleway but then it turns into Houndkirk road.

Are we allowed on it?
If yes is it nice and tame?

Thanks and apologies if this is a stupid thing to ask.
We just thought it might be nice to ride on something un surfaced for a change.

Houndskirk is legal to ride

The areas around it - the moorland is not
Loads of numpties on bikes and 4x4 have made a right mess up there
If you ride off the trail you may get in to trouble - there is a crossroad about halfway along it they too are legal
As for the dificulty :augie
How good are you :D
How much do you value yer bike :rob
YOU WILL DROP IT SOMETIME SOMEWHERE IF YOU OFF ROAD IT :thumb2
There are some easier lanes I would start on if I was you
Also Sunday is the buisiest day on the trails
I cant lead you yet cos my missis will not me out on the trails
I would tag on to someone who knows the area for a first time and learn/ find out what is legal
Some that were are not now
HTHY a bit anyway

Mick,

Thanks for the reply.

We have been on one lane before so not complete virgins.
We went up Wood Lane which branches off the A5012 Cromford road.
This turned into a bit of a lane (probably like a motorway to some of the guys on here though) which we found we enjoyed.
Although there was a chance of dropping the bike it wasn't as likely as on some of the trails I've seen in the reports on here.

Probably going to give the lanes a miss for now in view of your comments as we don't want to be riding on any that we shouldn't as we don't want to add to the excuses they have got for restricting them.

Going to look around on google maps and find some back roads this time.

I'll keep an eye out on here and if it's ok we may tag along on one of the rides you all do.

Andy
