Howdy folks,
Myself and the missus are coming to Scotland for the rugby final in May. We are staying 2 nights in the Edinburgh on the Friday & Saturday.
We are arriving off the ferry in Stranraer on the Wednesday so we are debating what to do before Edinburgh, any advice on routes, areas, accom, etc? We would be more inclined towards nice scenery and what not than pubs and clubs.
thanks

hotels

I can highly recommend the GlassHouse hotel in Edinburgh. It is reasonably priced and is only a 1.5 minute walk from the main sights in the city... and the shops for the wife! Even less to the playhouse as it is directly next door.

Just be careful with the use of the dark curtains. My wife and I woke up early one morning feeling like we had slept for 24 hours. Opened the curtains to find it was looking like dawn... looked at clock and it was quarter to five!!! Guess it was more like 18 hours in bed! Never used quality curtains before! Geesh... what a waste of a day!

you could take the A75 from Stranraer to Newton Stewart, then the A712, the queens way, through to new galloway, then join the A713 north until joining the A702, follow A702 to Elvanfoot and the A74.
From the A74 you can either go north a few miles to rejoin the A702 to Embra, or south a few miles to Moffat and follow the A701 to Embra via the Devils beef tub. all great roads :aidan.
if you 're stoppin in Moffat nip into the Buccleuch arms hotel, biker friendly an fantastic food :thumb2

I agree with HRH

Head for Aberfoyle and follow the Dukes Pass to Callander. Great road, great views and plenty of eateries and shops.
