Aerostich...

yep thats the only place although i have seen a few on e bay great bit of kit

M,

Its a long way from Duluth, Minnesota, and if it doesn't fit well, return shipping can cost you a lot.

So, I'd suggest posting the size you think you'll need and then asking if anyone in your area has one like it. Maybe they'd be good enough to let you try it on for sizing.

Go to the Aerostich web site and look up the Sizing Tool, 4th item down on the left, highlighted in yellow. Also check their Sizing Guide. I found it to work for me.

Note that the Roadcrafter 1 or 2 piece suit is not advertized as waterproof, although it does very well, even better when treated. I've never had a problem, but I also pack a 2-piece rainsuit for the times when I'll be more than two hours in heavy rain. The Darien jacket and pants, from everything that I've heard, is waterproof.

Get in touch with Nick (Commuter) rapidly.....he has a source in Boston..he's over here at the moment (was at the ace this morning)

With the exchange rate now, the're very very good value :thumb

Only avalible mail order from www.aerostich.com .... well worth it though!

I ordered one directly from the USA (I don't think they have a UK distributor). I called them, then placed the order. I didn't order a made to measure one.

When it arrived, I found :
1. It had been intercepted by HM Customs and I had to pay c.£45 duty
2. I found out that I had a long torso and short legs which resulted in my being unable to stand straight it it! It was either cutting me in half around the crotch or I found myself stooping! Regrettably it had to be sent back.
3. Return postage was at my expense
4. I had to go through the rigmarole (spelling correct?) of getting a rebate on the duty I paid (proof of despatch etc.)
5. To cap it all, when they refunded my credit card, I got stiffed on the movement in exchange rates between dollars and Sterling. Not their fault I hasten to add.

Whole escapade ended up costing me about £70 with nowt to show for it!

On the plus side, the product did look good, though (from what I can recall), they don't guarantee that it's totally waterproof - check it out first.

Their service and friendliness was excellent.

I commute a 220 mile round-trip a couple of times a week, all year round, and use a BMW Rallye 2 suit, which is fine, but needs lots of warm stuff underneath during the winter and ends up feeling (and sometimes being) damp and wet after a couple of hours of downpour. So the 'rainpro' oversuit is required for truly ugly weather or long, long winter journeys. This all means it takes me about 15 minutes each end getting completely changed.

I'd love a suit that I could get into quickly, wear 'normal' clothes underneath, yet still be reasonably comfortable, warm and dry with.

Many here have suggested a 'stitch' does just that, but given that most of us live in Britain, where most of the time it rains, I would expect the Darien stuff to be the tool of choice (it's fully waterproof) - yet most posts seem to be in favour of the roadcrafter suit.

So, roadcrafter owners - why would I be better to buy a roadcrafter than a Darien?

OK... So where in the UK (preferably in the Swindon - Gloucester area) can I get an Aerostich Roadcrafer from???

M

When you go to the Aerostich site, use their sizing tool, (on the menu at the left side of the page), fill it in with your precise measurements and requirements and they will email you back with the correct fit for you.

I've had one since September and I am very pleased with it. One caveat that you should take note of: Aerostich do not claim that the one-piece is 100% waterproof, (the soggy crotch syndrome, it may leak through the zip), so you may require an oversuit in certain conditions. I believe that the 2-piece is waterproof, but can be worn and used as a one-piece.

Overall, I prefer the convenience and draught-proof qualities of my 'Stich, just make sure that you leave room for layering in cold weather. :thumb

I'm waiting for mine to arrive.I've heard all the"it doesn't fit" stories,so I waited a long time before I tried one on that fitted me perfectly.

Redcastle has just got one,and after sending it back for alterations,it fitted me perfectly,so I got his order number, rang them and said I wanted one the same size as that one.

It's getting delivered to my girlfriends auntie in the states, and then she's sending it on as a present to stuff it to the tax people:thumb

It will probably be the wrong colour and won't fit at all,so keep an eye on the for sale threads in a couple of weeks:rolleyes:

I've had a few 'Stitch' suits and none of them have leaked if you use the 'Hale' technique!

I use wash in Nix Wax once in a while and that seems to help.

Bugger....

I was hoping to have a look at one & give it a try to work out sizing, etc.. before buying. Still not put off the idea though as they certainly look the mutts nuts. :thumb

Hmmmm.... Maybe there's a business opportunity there as the European distributor? :mmmm

Aerostitch don't want to know about an EU/UK operation. Had the conversation with them already. Always worth another go anyway.

Aerostitch alternative

Always wanted an Aerostich but just worried like most people about the fit/cost import etc etc. Got my self a Gimoto Turismo suit from the bike show in 99 it’s an Italian rip off copy ;) has worked fine since but getting a bit tatty and a couple of the small pocket zips have broken but for the price £399 at the time has been great. Tried to get another but they are no longer imported by the Klan (heated clothing) people so have been looking at a couple of alternatives may be worth a look.
One is the Alpenstar 360 one piece and the other is the Spidi Admiral H2OUT. Both are step-in suits like the Stitch and at the moment the Spidi is looking good and the price is not too bad compared to the Stitch. Think both are around the £450/500 mark. And the good bit is you can always try before you buy:bounce1:thumbhttp://http://www.motonation.com/itemdetail.asp?cid=27&scid=137&pid=307&rdir=1

The best thingS about the stich is the way you can get in and out of the trousers part of thE suit and the quality.

I have a pair of the roadcrafter trousers which I wear all year round although they are not really warm enough in winter. I then wear any jacket I like in conjunction with them, ( Rukka winter jacket, armoured Spidi textile in summer or HG Leather jacket ) .

This I feel is a great combination and will avoid that critical crotch to shoulders measurement that some have said prevented them from 'standing' in the full suit.

I can whip the trousers off full monty style in 5 secs flat and chuck 'em in my topbox and then walk around in just my jacket..:thumb

I LOVE MY STICH:clap
