Africa Twin - About the Bike

Had a look at one today - looked nice, but can't help think it is down on power and a fair bit heavier than a 990 adventure! Would have thought it would be a fair few Kgs lighter, although it is supposed to carry its weight well

Slightly ironic that Ktm discontinued the 990!

Still kind of want one though

Did you ride it ??? Ignore the weight-it disappears the minute you ride off !!

Weight is weight off road - you may still have to pick it up , and if affects power to weight ratio obviously. I'm just surprised it is not lighter

True, but show me one single review that says it needs more power off road ? I think Hondas have got the balance just about perfect and that's why it's selling so well.

......in that case why are you and Davy drooling over hideously expensive aftermarket exhausts which will reduce weight and increase power if the balance is already perfect :blast

Hardly comparable though really....................

The Honda is biased towards road use.

The KTM is biased towards dirt use.

I think that is obvious to most people.
I love the look of the bike but the exhaust system is a bit hideous like all bikes these days to meet strict emission rules. The AT looks so much better with the full Termi system. The power gain, which is not yet published isn't a factor.Anyway I probably won't get one unless the price is lower than I expect.

150 bhp, V twin dirt bike, who are you trying to kid...........or rather, who have KTM kidded?:D

.........so you will be disappointed if the power goes up and the weight comes down as a result then :augie

The standard exhaust sounds very nice, it looks better in the metal than in photos. But who doesn't appreciate a tad more noise and better looks ? As for extra power/less weight....couldn't give a stuff.

I went into Pand H in Crawley to have a look at an AT
Walked straight past it , could not find it , when I did it looked quite small but well screwed together . They have a demonstrator on , which looks like it's been used but it did not do it for me , bit like a mk2 triumph tiger , which I have had 2 of
If I wanted an off road biggish bike I!d get an XR400 like the one I have sitting in a shed in Cambodia
Hope you guys enjoy your bikes , but I'd rather have a 950SE KTM :D

I've just chopped in my GSA for an Africa Twin. Does anyone know if there's a wee plug hidden somewhere to power my GPS like the GS had? I've spec'd my bike with the 12v socket and heated grips so I believe that means extra wiring too. I'm hoping I don't have to splice something in, but if I do it should be easy with the 12v socket.

Yes, my dealer says there are four plugs in the loom for the 12V, one for heated grips, one for sat nav one spare... all you need to to is get the right sockets form someone like David Silver - collecting my bike on Saturday :)
