after some advice!

A line from Perpignan in the Pyrenees to Calais on the channel is almost due north, splits France in two. So Calais in the north west or north east depends on your point of origin.
2 Years ago I would have agreed totally with Mick-B, but due to circumstances at the time I hired a Gite and spent some time in the Calais area.
Its very undulating and forested a few miles in land, with some charming villages. Not perhaps worth a tour itself but worthy of a long weekend exploring. Calais itself is worth a few days visiting (and I don't often like cities) for its forts, ramparts and museums + WW2 bunkers and sites
Also worth a trip is the fortified town of Gravelines and my usual channel camp site at Grand Fort Phillipe. Both on the first river in any atlas, the river Aa.

Quite likely... however, I've thought for a moment or two and concluded Calais (roughly top left corner) is still generally situated in the north west ... isn't it?

Top left corner?

You need a new map of France, too. :D

To my surprise, the Pas de Calais is well worth a day or so exploring. Montreuil worth a night and a wonder round the walls, the old town of Boulogne, charming river valleys and national park just inland......easily missed while you pile on the miles.....going somewhere else!!

Ha, ha. :D I'll remember that when I set off South West to get to Norfolk from London :blast

It's the best way to go when overwhelmed by the desire to go to Norfolk :augie

I have answered your Peage question:

Shame you can't make the jaunt, hope to see you on another maybe :beerjug:

Thanks for that - will investigate the P.O. card and likewise :beerjug:

Now to (hopefully) get on with helping the OP sort out his holiday.

I should think so - poor chap is probably by now properly confused by the rudimentary geography of France and the relative position of Calais... I'm scarred by it - to quote Mary Tudor: "When I am dead and opened, you shall find 'Calais' lying in my heart"... but she never had access to your encyclopedic knowledge (nor 80 Virees a moto) :bow
