After washing - hard to start, won't idle, misfire

:thumb2 to everyone that said TPS, found the problem and fixed! :D

.......confession time........my fault!! :(

I fitted a Power Commander PCIII to the bike a few months back, I tucked the connection from the PCIII to the original TPS sensor connector up behind the rubber pipe you can see in the photo below. Today I discovered that the source of the chronic misfire, no tickover / idle, really rough running was ingress of water to the connection (due to its orientation behind the rubber pipe), dried out and all is well.
Shame I missed checking this connector before now!

Sharp looking Bike.:thumb2 ........
Thanks.......it seems on this occassion that too much washing had a part to play in my problems :aidan

Same problem

Hi just found your post. I washed my gs 2 days ago and had the exact same problem. It started but would not run below 2000rpm and it was lumpy. It seems to start and run ok now, just wondered if you found any answers. When i washed the bike i only used a hose, but did stick it up the front under the beak so i guess i got a lot of water under the tank.

This is why I didn't persevere with the PCIII, shite weatherproofing and untidy. Remap better IMHO.

Same thing on my '09 GSA - except this ugly little problem started manifesting after riding through a bout of heavy rain.

The bike does not now, and never has had, a PC installed. I'll bet the weatherproofing on the TPS unit itself was sub-standard, allowing water ingress. :blast

This weekend, after being washed, my GSA started doing the same thing again.

I pulled the TPS, but this time examined it a bit more closely.
Around the brush spindle (the white plastic portion) there should be a rubber O-ring fitting into a cavity which is moulded into the TPS. There was no O-ring installed!

One O-ring from my Great Big Parts Bin (TM) later, my GSA is a happy child.
