Hi all,

Is there a company making aftermarket chain guards? I was thinking of binning the wrap around the back wheel thingy.

Touratech do one and I think Wunderlich as well.
Removing the black plastic wrap around guard certainly improves the look of the rear end.

.
There's always BG's Suff who is a guy from the Chain Gang. He makes some nice add-on bits.

Thanks for the info!

The BG stuff seems very good value, is this because they are finished in bare aluminium, rather than anodised, or is it because things are just cheaper in the States?.

The Wunderlich and touratech items look pretty much identical.

I've just bgt the BGSTUFF chain guard, rear brake cover and "duck bill" mud flap which attaches to the rear number plate. All very easy to fit, good quality, good service from the US site and the bike looks a million times better (photos to follow)

Jeremy,

Was the carriage from the US expensive? Did you have to pay import duty or VAT?

I think the duck bill/chain guard/brake guard package was $75 ish which included the original shipping estimate. BGStuff discovered extra costs to the UK which they estimated at an additional $20. In the end it was only an extra $7. Remember where the $ is vs £, its well worth it.

Hope to attach some photos tomorrow. It really does transform the look of the bike.

As promised. Snaps of the BGStuff chainguard/brake guard/Duck bill. The Remus exhaust, Touratech higher sports seat, and front mud guard (from the Dakar) are also recent additions. It's like a new bike.

Cheers Aidan! I've had it new since Jul'03 and she's never missed a beat. I'd come close to buying a 1150GSA in November but a subsequent back operation meant that the GSAs ample weight would have been too much. The 1200 was an option but to me its as pretty as a rottweiler chewing a wasp.

My bike now feels a bit more individual.

hi jeremy some tidy looking aditions to the bike there :)

whats the touratech seat like for comfort ? i take it you had a standard gs seat before and this is the high touratch one ?

Yes I had a standard GS seat which I found to be be deeply uncomfortable on long 200+mile runs. I had surveyed every GS related site for ideas on a replacement but got a zero response rate. I've also just been getting over a back operation and thought that a higher seat would make life more comfortable.

Initially thoughts on the new Touratech seat are very +ve. The height makes a big difference to my stance on the bike (I'm a mere 5'9") stretching my legs and taking pressure off my lower back. Still no problems reaching the ground (and thats with the rear shock wound up to almost max). So yes i'm a fan but have yet to put serious miles on it.

And it looks cracking!
