Is there an accepted way of modifying the snorkel to make more air available to the engine, I have read that it has been done, but not seen it written down where to cut it. The Yamaha XT660 has a new air box cover available, and the difference after fitting a K&N to my bike was very noticeable, much more so than the Remus exhaust fitted later. sue

The airbox on my 650 Rallye bike has been modded by cutting off the intake tube to within around 6 inches of the air filter.
I'll post a picture next time I have the cover off.

Thanks for replying to sues letter guys, very helpful info on chain gang. After reading posts I was concerned about getting water into the air box especially when pressure washing and also heat affecting the temp sensor when in traffic and so I decided to just slot the front of the snorkel at the bottom, still hidden behind the side panel and at the inside next to the fork stanchion. As the snorkel is tapered the area increases quite quickly. Well I got a shock after cutting the first slot, I looked in and the snorkel passage was at least 30% blocked by hard plastic moulding flash. This has been ground away and with the new slots the opening is nearly as big as the foam insert on the K&N filter. Now the road salt is down here, so I dont know when we will be out next but this must help and I will post again, maybe worth looking to see if other snorkels are partly blocked? Graham
