Bought a neat gadget from Wunderlich: a temperature guage that replaces the steering stem bolt cover. It is dead easy to fit and is in the design of the rear wheel see-through axle. The dial is also same font as the speedo and rev counter. Amazingly the temperature has so far been bloody accurate.

Check it out at wunderlich.de and the ref is 8160475.

hello starman,

i have downloaded the wunderlich catalogue in pdf file and it is in bloody german. (obviously! :D )

there are a few items that i wish to purchase from there and was wondering where did you buy your air temp gadget from, spc or direct from wunderlich, deutscheland? and if the latter, how did you communicate with the beemer boys from wunderlich?

happy riding!

Not too near but ..............

Williams in Manchester can get bits and they also have a copy of the German catalogue.

I've ordered a thermometer through them as SPC don't seem to be bothering to update their website. Maybe the owner has a 11xx gs and doesn't recognise the 12 GS as a "real" bike?

I got mine via SPC.

It seems pretty accurate and looks nice.

I went for the nurled edge version which matches the beveling on the GS rear wheel spindle outer housing.

Recommended.

i use the drip on the end of my nose - its also very accurate, and it matches the rear end of my bike - the drip from the rear bevel .

;)

I spotted these on the Wunderlich website the other day. I couldn't tell from the picture if the temperature is illuminated, I would hope that it is. After all, it gets colder when it gets dark.

It's not illuminated Rob; but with your £78 you could buy one and a really nice maglite torch, so that you can see it in the dark!

It would, however still leave you well over nine grand short for the actual bike itself, ahem ;)

Steptoe's idea is best - in my day lad, you kept your nose as wet as a labrador's and if it iced up then best to slow down and keep the bike upright through the bends etc :D

Last winter I slowed down when my breath froze on the inside of my visor

To answer some questions I've been receiving, I ordered mine directly from Wunderlich for EUR 49 so I dont know where the £78 came from. I corresponded in German (learnt it at school) so I suppose that helped. The typeface I mentioned just means that it is the same style lettering as the speedo and no, it is not illuminated and doesnt react to light like the instrument binnacle (as beemergirl froz Oz asked me).... hope this answers a few question....

i have one of these on my 1150,
the cold air passing through the warm oil cooler , deflects towards the thermometer nicely:D

or when i went from Santander across the spanish plains to Andalucia - the warm air passed through the hot oil cooler :D

Starman, the £78 comes from the amount Rob has in his piggy bank saved up for his GS - why you not rissen?

He cold buy the thermometer a maglite torch and still have change for a fish and chip supper, now THAT's real value for money! :D

You could go to the http://www.wunderlich.co.uk/ English web site and click on accesories to buy one at £37.49, so I don't know where the German lingo helped? :D

It's not the same one as

Doh! Good spot Clive!

However, I ordered the GS specific one from SPC and it was about the same price.

Cos I'm skint! Having to sell some toys in order to save up some money. I'm also going back on call at work so that sould help too. :(

Hopefully a deposit will be put down in February and delivery in May (my choice, not waiting time).

Rob,

Why not add £22 to your £78 and put down £100 deposit now on a speculative May delivery?

Aree with the dealer that it's subject to you having the funds at the time in question.

This is what I did with my dealer SLM; my deal was purely down to speculation that I'd be able to sell my then Ducati for a reasonable price privately, before the day, and if not a full deposit refund.

They weren't remotely bothered by this suggestion - I mean, it's not like they'll have any problems selling a new GS is it?

I only suggest this because it'd be a right downer if you got to February and then for whatever reason you were then told demand is still strong or has possibly increased and therefore you're looking at Sep/Oct time instead.

Best be safe than potentially miss out on a summer of riding bliss!:)

Aaaah sorry Capt'n S - now that's why I failed my exams at school cos I never read the question to the end, hence missing the £78.

Now Rob about that saving, you could build as you save - just go to your dealer and get the cylinder guards for £65 - all you need to add are then engine, wheels, seat etc, and rather than waiting for the money to build up, you can watch the bike being born from the ground up.... much more fun than looking at money in piggy banks !

Wasn't there a song years ago about a bloke who did something similar with a Cadillac? He had a '56 '57 '58 '59 '60 '61 '62 and '63 model,

Besides, I expect I wouldn't get a warranty :)
