Hey up
Jaber has given me his euro GS80/100 headlamp to use on a euro trip :thumb2
I have to give it him back though, or get one for myself. I know I can buy one from a shop but with all the "imported" ones on "here" does anyone have one spare I could buy, cheaper the better of course - Its the round one off the earlier better looking faster models :thumb2 - I have a UK spec one :D I know I could stick some of those silly stickers and I know some have been abroard without a care for other drivers - I would like to take the do it right option - this time :rob
PM me if you want to keep annonimous :augie

Thanks for looking

You could always go for the cool yellow perspex cover with eu pattern over your headlight.

I'm not sure the yellow ones are still legal for some vehicles. I think it's age related. If you machine was registered before a certain date they are still ok. I'll ask the French contingent at work. I'd go for the tape option. It's not as if the gs headlight is WWII searchlight strength plus you still have to get to the boat with the yellow h/lamp. UK police seem to be very observant when they want to be...I had a erm...fruity Supertrap zorst on one of my bikes, drove all round europe with no bother and got stopped within 10 miles of getting off the boat in Dover. Also been pulled in the UK for a black visor with a German plated bike. EU Bill don't seem to care about noisy pipes or black visors if used responsibly. Or I've been lucky. Anyway it would be a shame to get nicked on the way to the boat though. Don't suppose plod would see both ends of the bike at the same time though to work out the yellow h/lamp uk number plate combo.

Hey Up Mate, why bother we won't be riding at night so whats the point. I never bothered with it over here either. Email to follow shortly. A

My R100GS German import still has its euro headlight fitted. I don't hardly ever ride at night and while in theory I am going to blind the oncoming drivers in practice I'd say the beam crosses them for a fraction of a second just before we pass each other. When we take the car to France we do fit the stickers and that seems like the best solution if you really need to get localised. Plus when you get back you can instantly revert to UK spec by just peeling the sticker off.

If you are going to be in la belle France then headlights are mandatory, day or night.
Having said that, one of my bikes might still be sporting a UK headlight after 2 years of re-registration on French plates. I've been a bit busy you see.

Bosch Lamp units

The pattern is so poor on the original Bosch lamp units that the cut off (such as it is) is reasonably flat and has little or no adverse effect on on-coming traffic on the continent.

To overcome this short coming I am going to fit a Cibie Z180 now that am running a HID50 which will require the tape mod when on dip to avoid inconveniencing others.
