Hi All,

Here is a used Valeo Starter Motor, model D6RA.

This was on my 1994 R100GS and was working well when removed, but tested on the bench today to be sure.

Asking £60 including postage to a UK address, which is about £8 as it weighs 3kg or of course collection fine too.

Thanks for looking.

Sorry, don't know, never had it in bits, unknown if it was a replacement or the original from new in 1994.
The seriel number is on the unit so it may be possible to check this out.

The method of securing the magnets in the Valeo D6RA starter motor depends on its specific sub-model and date of manufacture and I am not sure how to check out which version mine is, but if anyone knows please advise.

A quick web seatch show the following:
  • Older D6RA models (such as D6RA7, D6RA55) typically have their magnets glued in place using an adhesive. This design is a known weak point, as the adhesive can fail over time (often due to heat or moisture), causing the magnets to detach and jam the armature.
  • Newer/replacement D6RA models (such as D6RA15, D6RA75 have been improved with the addition of metal clips or retaining tabs, as well as an improved adhesive, to hold the magnets securely. This design offers far greater reliability.
Mine does have the 15 stamped after the D6RA on the ID sticker, so not sure if that means it is the D6RA15 using clips for the magnets.

I have asked the question in the Airhead section in the hope some expert bods have the answer.

Cheers

I recently replaced the original starter motor on my R80R (1994). The label said D6RA and there was a "15" embossed on the label after the D6RA (exactly the same as yours). That starter had glued-in magnets, and one of them had fallen off, rendering the starter useless.

If this is the case, the starter still functions and has to be worthwhile for someone, even if just to keep on the shelf for emergencies.

Given the above, then price reduction to £40 posted.

Many thanks. If you took it apart and found clips, I'd have it. If you took it apart and found clips, you could charge more!!

Thanks, seems a give away at £40, so may well look inside and if clips present put price back up again, top man !

Forgot about this, but looked into it and it seems it is the version with glued magnets. As stated above, tested before posting for sale so as a spare it seems well priced at £40 posted, bear in mind it is heavy so it won't be cheap for me to post.
