OK I realise this isn't going to be news to those who have de-cat headers etc. But....

Although I enjoy the sound an after market slip-on can give, I'm not one to have a really noisy bike to annoy my rural neighbours so I normally leave my baffles in.

I've just had a long weekend in Orkney with some biker mates; one of whom had removed his baffles on his '17 GSA. I was surprised that it doesn't make it run any louder, it just deepens the note. Lovely :D

So in a fit of curiosity I got my tools out and removed my baffles.
I got the same sound effect (nice!) as the GSA with no increase in volume, but what really surprised me is just how much more freely the gasses seem to flow through the engine now given that what are effectively just restriction orifices have been removed. Throttle response seems so much more refined, especially lower down the revs. The return journey in the rain on my favourite road between Tongue and Lairg was a complete hoot.:P

Now I was already happy with the performance of my bike but was mulling over the Hilltop mod. I think I'll leave it for now and just go play :D

Are you talking about removing the baffle from the end can or removing the cat from the front pipes.

Oh and wait for the responses that say fitting decat headers and free flow end cans actually reduces the power! What they don't realise is that with closed circuit fuel injection, i.e. having a lambda sensor the fueling is adjusted by the ecu.

I removed the baffles from the end can.
A hex key and a pair of grips. Mine is a euro 3 can. It was a five minute job.

Hmm not sure mine has that, need to have a look, (2017 Akra on a GS TE) if I thought it was that easy would not have asked lol, I know on my Termi on DVT is just an allen hey, and pull it out, (I have just it back in)

If it's a euro4 end can then you can't access the hex bolts unless you remove the end cap by drilling the rivets out. Someone here has done it recently and posted pics.

Edit: found it http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/451800-Akrapovic-baffle-removal?highlight=Akrapovic
The thread shows the difference between euro3 and euro4 (Oldrat's pic).

I think you will find you get a few more Miles per tankful as well :thumby:

Yes I've noticed the computed consumption has improved :D
I went to fill up at Tescos last night and the only free pump only had 98 ron super available. Wot larks Pip! Loads of low down torque and able to cruise at idle in first when manoeuvring out of the forecourt. Happy days.

Really good info, but coming from a Harley world I am really happy to have some quiet to my ears lol, and another bonus is I do not have to roll off the gas when passing the Blue and White stop checks, as for fuel consumption, I ride a hell of a lot and you will see that you get way better fuel served in the real petrol stations using the best quality petrol, than using the supermarkets, I will give you a perfect example when using the wifes car, I got 600kms out of a full tank using supermarket high end fuel, and 750 using real petrol station high end fuel, and that was tested at least 10 times doing same trip with same weight etc, and pretty similar wind conditions, so unless I get caught short I fill up away from the cheapo service stations, this is just for info. :moped:
