Nice part of the world. I can’t see you sitting on a beach all day though.
We are staying here.
Going with my best mate and his Mrs. He picked the hotel.
And no Steve definitely don't want to sit on the beach all day plus somebody would complain to the RSPCA. And that's just for our lass.

We stayed near there on our way to Gibraltar. It’s all nice around there. Only trouble for a fat lad like me is the bars and restaurants all look so appealing
Bars. I like Bars.
There is an old town and a new town. The old town is FULL of all sorts of bars and eaters, it's a great night out. There is a nice marina near the old town which is definitely worth a look around.The new town has an area called 'The Strip' - worth one viisit but you probably won't go back. Take some cash, not all taxis take cards and even some bars won't and I do mean WON'T, they have let me walk away rather than take a card. There is a railway station which is just out of town (€7 Uber) If anyone in your party is over 65 then a quick flash of their passport gets them a 50% reduction in rail fares - trains are reliable but dog slow, just roll with it.
Great climate - Lovely people - Generally cheap for us, I don't lay on beaches or sit around pools. I've never bothered with a car, Uber/trains are dead cheap. For places to visit have a look on the Viator web site. Viator do many day trips around the Algarve, their itineraries should give you a good idea where to go and what you can see.
I've been a few times and I like it. Hope you all have a great time -

Remember Mateus Rosé - esential drinking for the upcoming middle clases of the late 60's and early 70's and essential candle holder for budding hippies t be placedn the bricks and two planks bookshelf along with Catch 22, Zen and the Art, te Whole Earyh Catalog and all the rest

It's a nice run out to the Cape St Vincent light, and plenty of wee villages up the mountains behind the Coast among the Cork tree plantations.

I stayed at the Montechoro Hotel years ago at the top of the strip, since been renamed the Jupiter. From what I've heard the strip is a lot livelier these days and is about a mile and a half from Albufeira.
You won't be disappointed with Albufeira, it's lively enough without being overpowering and has loads of bars and restaurants.
Along the coast is Portimao (about 25 miles) and Lagos, a bit further. Both worth a trip if you hire a car. I remember a dock side restaurant at the side of a fishing boat serving freshly landed sardines, excellent.
We also stayed in Carvoeiro which is midway between Albufeira and Portimao. It's a small bay and more traditional Portuguese than Albufeira but a proper nice quieter type of place.
We thoughly enjoyed our hols on the Algarve. It's a great place with nice people, lots of sun, great food, mad drivers and of course Sagres lager (very moreish). Enjoy.

drive down to Lagos (not Nigeria) and take a boat trip to the caves which is a nice few hours out.
Can recommend a small restaurant in the town in a closed off street which we used quite a bit!

lots of nice bars and restaurants in the old town, the street where Bistro and Os Arcos is a bit quieter. Os Arcos is owned by a local chap who seems like an ignorant sod but is actually really good when you go - need to book 1/2 nights in advance. the strip is worth a visit even just for a look - get the 'train' from above the escalators up and back (or stroll one way) for a drink one night. a couple of miles out is a lovely fishing village called Ohlos D'agua which has a few really good resaurants used by the locals at the weekend plus a nice beach for the daytime with a couple of cafes near by. Villamora marina is worth going to for a lazy lunch (if dull) or an evening dinner.

I booked a hire car through the Rentalcars app in March last year Doc. We collected it from Faro and used it for going to the MotoGP at Portimão. £45 for five days. Yes it was off peak time of year but still mighty value for the money.
