Recently I came across a website (PocketGPS) where they have files for TomTom with all the speed cameras in UK.

I also found (mentioned on pocketgps site) this conversion utility POIConverter where you can covert the supplied files to MapSource pcx5 (.wpt) format.

They are a lot of cameras (4500+) so your unit must be capable to store a large amound of waypoints or you can delete the ones not near your area.

If you are using a unit with proximity alarms you can set it to warn you at a set distance of the camera. (e.g. 2-5 miles away)

I have done this conversion and I have a .zip file (only 67kb) with all the MapSource (.gdb) files. If anyone can post them here email me to send them to you or you can try yourself.

Happy dodging!

I'd certainly like to try that one out. My licence is clean at6 the moment and I'd like to try and keep it that way:D

You could try obeying the speed limits.

I'll get me coat...

I used the safety camera database for a while with TomTom but in the end I took it off.

There's no concerted effort to correct the database, especially with cameras that have been removed, or where the information was incorrect in the first place. So it has far too many false warnings to be much use, and also includes all sorts of cameras including traffic lights. As I have NO intention of deliberately jumping a red light, this is just a pain in the neck.

You need to do something with the angle of detection otherwise it warns about possible camera sites on adjoining roads (when you are going along the motorway and nearby roads have/had cameras). Also, not one of Eastbourne's speed cameras was listed and I can only presume the level of inaccuracy will be the same elsewhere.

The PocketGPS web site seems to have regural updates with speed cameras.

Also the files are split into six categories (Gatso, SPEC, Traffic light, Mobile, Temp and Continental) so you can load the ones you want.

I do a lot of travelling on the motorway and some times they are cameras on the bridges. it is nice to know when you approach a possible site. As I sain one can customize the solution to their needs.

cheers

Brilliant.

Downloaded and transferred to my Garmin Quest.

Looking at my local area it seems to be accurate.

Don't want to wee wee on anyones parade, but from bitter personal experience the mobile cameras are more of a threat to your license and you bank account. :(

Today driving to work and using the GPSMap 276C with the mobile cameras loaded in (GPS was in Map Mode and zoom to about 0.5mi) I was able to see the cameras ahead and... guess what one of them was there! A good early warning system ;-)

Guys,

Download the zip file that Dennis has put up on page one of this thread. Unzip it and then open the files in mapsource.
