Close shave 🤔 I wonder what is the cause.

Hello to you guys. Was going out for a drive today and after 1 km I was told about "low voltage" I was also told on the display to end the drive immediately. Drove back home and parked. Then there was smoke from the voltage regulator and a huge heat development Even though I turned on the ignition the heat continued. Had to disconnect the battery and then it calmed down. My R1250rs is a 2020 model with only 11000km.

He doesn’t have any aftermarket crap on the bike, just an Arrow can.

On my 5th BMW LC bike now

My guess would be something like a failure of the shunt regulator and excess voltage not being passed to ground. Instead it's being passed through the side of the circuit which can't handle that voltage input.

This.

Had similar happen on my Vstrom shortly after buying it. Smoke coming from under the tank followed by engine cutting out. Regulator had failed and melted input and output wires it got so hot. It happens occasionally if a component goes south but I wouldn't say it's of general concern to RS owners. In fact, it's the first time ever I've heard this happening to an RS or any boxer other than a high mileage blood bike where the wiring loom got toasted, but that had 150K miles on the clock.
