going to the alps at the same time

I am going to the Alps from Scotland from mid to end of September, If you need a hand with any planning or suggste accomodation (hotels) just give me a shout

(Hi Val, sorry for the Hi Jack!)

I'm planning a similar trip this year through the Dolomites and the Alps.
I've done a few routes on the GPS software, but I have no idea what distance one can realistically cover in the Alps/Dolomites on a daily basis and still enjoy the odd pit stop and photo oppertunity here and there.

In Norway my daily the distances (350km) on mountian roads took a whole of day and the wife was not happy?

So any advice/suggestions from the collective pool of wisdom will be greatly appreciated?

Came back from Garmisch from the BM Biker Meet and this may give some idea of timings.

Garmisch, Timmelsjoch, Stelvio, Livigno, Fluelapass and onto Davos. Didn't hang around too much, but stopped at the top of all the passes, took a few photo's had lunch etc. And that took a day.

just get it at the border far easier, most of the time they wont stop u anyway also most bikes here have the stickers under the seat anyway so plod is used to seeing bikes without a sticker - might lead to questions tho :ronno

My plan for the trip to the Alps in Sept

I am getting the boat from Newcastle to Amsterdam for my first trip, on my own, to the Alps.

So day One, travel to newcastle and get the boat.
Day two, travel from Amsterdam to Rudesheim and Rein, really cool german hunting lodge hotel place, great parking. Above the river Rhine with a great cable car ride down to the town.
Day Three to Six - Drive to the Sedrum., Just a bit west of andermatt. I did not fancy staying in the epi centre of bike world, Way too much noise for an old fart like me. Staying at a cool chalet hotel lodge place for three days. Each day I will ride between 150k and 350k on loads of route and nip into Italy if I can via a ferry for a wee coffee.
Day Sevenish - Short ride from Sedrum to Visp and find a place to stay near Zermatt, There are some places with great B&Bs but you have to park your bike a full 1k away, Not sure I like this., Prices for B&B and hotels seem to be be really good. Going to stay here for 3 days. And tour around. Lots to see

Day 10ish, head over to Martingy for 2 days. Have one particular route I want to take.

Day 12, Head off to Bastonge, Having seen the Band of Brothers DVD, I want to see the place (forest) for myself
Day 13 - Head to Delft (20 miles from Amsterdam)

Day 14 - The feey Back

Day 15 - Home

Lots to do and hugely excited

See what you think
