ALPS TRIP

Look forward to hearing how the trip went at the end of the day and lessons learned etc.
Oh by the way, the oldest wine festival in Alsace takes place in Eguisheim during the last weekend in August. A bit late for you I know but when you are wondering through the concentric lanes of the old town try to imagine that over this weekend more than 20,000 people throng the streets glass in hand and toasting just about everyone in sight.

looks a lovely town should be nice chill out there that night, thanks again for link staying right in the square

Switzerland can be a bit boring if you're not 'doing' something. 6 days in Grindlewald... Unless you like staring at the mountains, I would change location more often. Interlaken is a tourist trap (really).

I did Nyon to Martigny (autoroute), then back roads from Martigny to Furka-Pass, Andermatt, Susten Pass and then Interlaken to Grindlewald in a day. Including a long stop for lunch.

As others have mentioned, you may want to move around, see a bit of Italy (Stelvio? I know a fantastic restaurant in Etroubles, just over the Grand St. Bernard), go to Chamonix, visit Verbier maybe, go up to the Movoisin dam (kind of cool). There is one place where you can hike to the Trient glacier (it's a longish hike...)

Annecy is nice, France is a bit of a shit hole though, especially in terms of roads.. oh, and bring a vault in which to park your bike at night.

Geneva is to be avoided as well, it too is a shit hole not worth visiting, unless you like paying way too much for a coke and being crapped on by wanna-be rich people driving Audis...

However, it takes me two dasy to complete the Susten/Furka/Grimsel loop.

Did you push the bike up the passes and freewheel back down? It's a lot easier if you turn the engine on :thumb

We left Luzern around 9am, stopped for breakfast, rode up/down the Susten Pass, over the Furka & Grimsel passes including lunch at the top of Grimsel, took loads of photos and were still in Chur for about 5pm without breaking any speed limits :nenau

However, it takes me two dasy to complete the Susten/Furka/Grimsel loop.

It's only 75 miles so don't le the above put you off!

We went from Andermatt across the Furka, stopped to go inside the Glacier at the top, then rode over the Grimsel, turned of and went to Lauterbrunned to see the falls and have lunch, came back to the Grimsel / Sustem junction and rode over the Susten back to Andermatt.

We left late as the weather was not great (about 10ish I believe) and were back well in time for tea.

The loop itself assuming you are staying somewhere on the route could be done in about 2 hours if riding quite quickly and not stopping to gawp.
